8chan returns without its most notorious community

The anonymous forum 8chan is back, although it might not be the anything-goes site it once was. The newly rebranded 8kun launched on November 3rd with many of 8chan's boards having made the migration. There's now a more prominent disclaimer that 8kun will remove any content deemed illegal in the US, however. The site operators (including Ron Watkins, the son of 8chan owner Jim Watkins) are clearly aware of the former site's reputation as a haven for racist mass shooters' manifestos and other illegal activity, and they don't want 8kun to be cut off like its predecessor was in August. That may also be reflected in what you don't see on the site.

The new site doesn't currently include /pol/, the 8chan board where shooters posted their manifestos. It's not yet clear if that's by choice, but the absence is conspicious. The community was frequently seen as a haven for racism and other extremist ideologies, and it's arguably the main reason why companies like Cloudflare and Tucows stopped supporting 8chan.

It's uncertain if this will be the definitive replacement for 8chan. There has been a peer-to-peer mirror and other sites hosting former 8chan users. However, 8kun said in mid-October that it had received over 200 board migration requests, and was pushing to get all of the top 25 boards.

I never go there, and only went to 4chan a handful of times. I wish them success and a free speech platform, but I'm not personally interested at this point.

I used to visit /pol/ when there was a big leak or mass shooting because they would post info that MSM would take hours to report on.

I just would be afraid to start going in there lol. I wouldn't want to like it, but in all honestly I would want to read manifestos and things like that. *shrugs*

8chan was a board of peace.
This sort of rhetoric is radicalizing moderates.

What is the difference between 4chan and 8chan? Which one creates the school shooters?

8chan was made by Fredrick Brennan and is viewed as a “less moderated” version of 4chan. Both sites have really bad reputations.

As can be gathered from the names, 4chan is aimed at....err, directed toward pre-school aged recruits, while 8chan focuses on inculcating with homicidal rage persons more in the 3rd grade age range (or at least persons with comparable emotional intelligence).

8chan allows you to create your own forums and threads, whereas 4chan has a limited number of forums just like Sherdog. So basically in 8chan people can literally discuss about anything they want.

Simply deleting the containment board won't do anything. All the people who think like that won't disappear and will just migrate to another place. If you think people are dangerous surely it's better to keep them in one place where they can be monitored easily.

8chan is for socially awkward, loner losers who have no life outside the internet, no friends and no vagina to sniff

I really don't like the format. I understand why some people like it, but I find it terribly counterintuitive. That's my only real complaint.

Well it might relieve some pressure from the War Room, so there's that.

Those who frequented the /pol section would just go to the Deep Web to continue their shenanigans.

All this does is further drive them underground where they can't be found.

He created it because he felt 4chan's moderation policies were too draconian and wanted a safe space for "free speech". Of course, what ended up happening was that all of the worst :eek::eek::eek:philes, neo-nazis, creepshotters, and dark web drug/steroid dealers flocked to it. It made 4chan look tame in comparison.

Brennan was a notorious sex-pat, though in his case you can't blame him.

4chan is a sickening place but not because of extremist hackers but because it’s full of gay porn, tranny porn, anime porn, and anime.

Try discussing serious political and social issues with socially stunted high school anime fans, and you’ll see why it’s a waste of time, at least if you’re trying to take it seriously.

Never visited, I think. Went to check 4chan a few times but it's not my thing. Was 4chan or 8chan that Magnotta posted the video of murdering his bf?
