Now i see people not even putting him top 10 hw all time. Its crazy how the optics of his career have sullied our opinion after years of consideration. This happens with a lot of fighters, while they are fighting we tend to celebrate their current status as an all time status. We should let them play out until they retire so we can properly place their careers.

There's no doubt that you can get a better perspective on a fighter's career after their career is over. But there was nothin crazy about thinking Velasquez was the best HW we'd seen eight years ago. At his best, he was really damn good.

The way his career played out was downright tragic.

I think the general consensus here is that Prime Cain would've destroyed any version of Stipe and most likely would've beat Fedor as well.

I still think Cain is the most skilled/dangerous HW we've ever seen in the sport and that is enough to rank him as one of if not the GOAT HW, although he wasn't able to stick around and rack up title defenses, his performances against the best at the time speak for themselves.

I'll never forget watching him walk into the octagon for the first JDS match. He walked around and squatted down then came up funny, I could immediately tell something wrong with his knee.

Whoever is the current UFC champ, the casuals will kiss their ass for a few years until they fall off and then they’ll forget. When Pettis signed with PFL all the casuals couldn’t care less but when he was champ he was the LW GOAT. It’s the usual cycle. That UFC belt really has mystical powers to these people. Joe Schmo could put that thing on and ppl would believe he’s the GOAT.

Heavyweight is especially unkind in retrospect because the ability for savage KOs is much higher. Obviously Cain fell off byt the JDS beatings have been tough to watch.

But we've seen Fedor, Nog, CroCop all get corpsed multiple times.

At heavyweight you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become.... a gatekeeper

At his PEAK, he was the toughest S.O.B EVER IMO

No one knew he was going to be perpetually fighting the same 3 people and hurt. Easy to think if he had not been sidelined all the time amd had fought different opponents he would have been an all time great. His wins are good. He started fighting at an elite level very quick into his career but the fact he has onlt about 10 fights hurts him. It is easy to surpass
