Hey everyone,
Five-round post incoming.
I'm a fantasy sports nut
and have always wanted to see a traditional fantasy setup for MMA in the vein of baseball/football/basketball. Rather than weekly picks, teams in this theoretical setup would own fighters and accumulate stats from each fight and match up against other teams over a set period of time.
I've never seen this format for MMA, so I decided to create it.
The format, rosters, scoring, etc. are as follows:
Format
-12 teams.
-The season will be one calendar year from the date we decide to start. This will be determined by when the draft date, but we'll clarify a start date pre-draft so you which fights will count before selecting anyone.
-I've created a spreadsheet with standings/rosters/statistics that will be updated weekly.

-Only fighters currently on the UFC roster are eligible to be drafted.
-Each team will own multiple fighters from each division, rostered in the following way:
Divisions
Heavyweight - 2
Light Heavyweight - 2
Middleweight - 3
Welterweight - 4
Lightweight - 4
Featherweight - 4
Bantamweight (M) - 3
Flyweight (M) - 2
Bantamweight (W) - 2
Flyweight (W) - 2
Strawweight (W) - 2
Note: The rosters are this deep to counteract the lack of activity (fighters competing once or twice per year) as to ensure statistical regularity at the end of the year. Some UFC divisions have less than others, hence the different number of rostered fighters per weight class. The scoring categories don't discriminate between division, so there's no inherent advantage to one division over the other (either than maybe targeting a shallower division like you would a weak position in baseball). A strawweight is just as valuable as a heavyweight in theory.
-Each team will have a $100 waiver budget to be used throughout the year. Any fighter signed to the UFC not on a league roster is eligible to be added. A new-signee becomes eligible in the first waiver period following the UFCs official announcement of their signing.
-The waiver period will begin immediately following the end of each UFC event and will last for 48 hours. Teams will bid privately by PM and winners will be announced in a thread.
SCORING
-Per the spreadsheet in this screenshot

https://imgur.com/a/rczQt3J), there will be 8 scoring categories tallied each week: Wins, Losses, KO/TKO, Submissions, Striking Differential, Strikes Landed, and Takedown Defense (%).
-Each team will have a score of 1-12 based on their standings in each of the eight categories, adding up to their total scores (min 12, max 96).
-Stats will be tallied by myself in that spreadsheet in the Team tab like in this screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/WBfiLVH. Individual fight stats will automatically populate in the Standings tab from embedded functions in Excel. You can ignore the stats in there right now; I just charted Ngannou vs. Velasquez as a test event. The roster setups are also a little outdated since I changed them, but this is how individual fights will be tallied.
-Points will also be allocated for the following bonus categories and added to each team's end-of-year tally:
Ranked Wins
-Top-15 = .25
-Top-10 = .50
-Top-5 = 1.00
-Title Win/Defense = 2.00
Post-Fight Bonuses
-POTN = 1.00
-FOTN = 1.00

Note: The ranked wins and post-fight bonuses are weighted to ensure that the best fighters are also the most valuable. I want to avoid some good prospect crushing cans for a year (ala Zabit) and dominating the league. This way, someone like Jon Jones defending twice during the calendar year adds an extra 4 points to the team score which would make him massively valuable.
-The post-fight/ranked win bonus points will be added to the Roto Standings number to create the final standings.
If You're Still Reading...
Essentially, I love MMA and want to engage with the sport more than watching 6 hours per week and talking shit with all of you. This league could be really cool, but it absolutely needs active owners. The worst case scenario here is we do the draft, get a few events in, and everyone stops paying attention.

_______

Every league member has their own team: a roster of UFC fighters specific to them that they’re drafted, picked up, traded for, etc. Only one person owns Jon Jones, another team owns Islam, etc. We’ll start out with a 26 round draft to fill out every roster and then go from there.
In the way that fantasy football teams have designated positions (QB, RB, WR, TE), this will be the same but with weight classes.

Looks like you've already put a bit of work in, yeah I'm game.

This is going down. Islam/Charles 2 first event. Drafting once we have enough people currently have 4 human beings (probably) playing.
