Anderson Silva recently thanked "master" Daniel Woirin on his Instagram.. Here is a extract from his interview and two of the most famous fighters he coached for a few fights.
About Machida :
"Machida had just signed in the UFC.. He liked my method and i started coaching him a lot on his distance, the way he had to move. My first fight with him being my "student" was against Sokoudjou. Sokoudjou was so impressive but Machida finished him in the second round. That's when i became really famous and when i caught the eye of Anderson.
But i was a muay thai coach and i had a lot of media exposure in Brazil. Machida had a very strong support from his karate-rooted family and i started to become "too much" for them. I had a great relationship with Machida and his family, but one phone call from them, and i was gone. It was just before his fight for the belt, i was so disappointed. That's when i learned you can lose everything you worked for in an instant, and you always have to prove yourself, all the time"
About Anderson :
Anderson had interest in me at that time and i first coached him before his fight against Henderson. Meeting Anderson for the first time was super impressive : the guy was huge and he has such a reputation in Brazil. He was a magician really.. The fight that helped my career tremendously was his fight against Irvin because i taught him how to catch a low kick. At that thime everyone was laughing at that idea but it worked ! Then it was the Forrest Griffin fight. It's funny cause Anderson didn't have good sparring partners in our camp before. He just wanted me to guide him in the cage during the fight.
Coaching Anderson was hard because he was so famous and he always had lots of people around, managers who didn't know shit about what there were talking about... That was a lot of pressure.. That's why i had to leave, and i felt great doing that"
Ciryl Diabate introduced him to team Quest and Hendo, who he started to coach as well.. (for his fights again Fedor, Shogun...) Too much to translate but you have a glimpse of his experience..
