The guy with the best headmovement ever in the UFC and overall fantastic defense have terrible leg kick defense. It's how both Pereira and Jan were able to stop him. Even in his kickboxing career he rarely lifted his legs and perfect leg kick check will stop your opponent from doing it, just ask Weidman.

Easier said than done. Let’s see you defend kicks to the legs without getting knocked out by Pereira’s punches, all the while trying to land strikes of your own.

I thought you were going to say manicures or pedicures.

Leg kicks are the reason he lost in their first fight. You obviously never trained in your life because checking leg kick doesn't means that you would immediately get punch into your face as you can do high guard at the same time

Watch as many Guru videos as you want. You can’t win a fight (definitely not with Pereira) by just checking leg kicks and holding up a high guard.
Lol obviously beating the previous p4p kickboxer isn't something simple to do. It doesn't means adesanya shouldn't fix his holes. And forget about pereira. Jan beaten adesanya with lots of leg kicks as well and in the future he might lose again with the same strategy against another super talented fighter. And don't use the dumb weight excuse, Jan won because he had the higher fight IQ.

I want you to know Izzy does know how to check leg kicks. He knows how to roll the leg aside or back too. The best leg kicks are not telegraphed and just a few of them can cripple a man for the rest of the fight. If someone lands some jabs on you, does that mean you have terrible defence against jabs? No, not necessarily. Just like calf kicks, the best jabs aren't telegraphed. Even the best fighters don't see every shot coming or can't defend against every shot coming. Even the best fighters have to weigh their options and prioritize their offence and defence. To stand wide, to put weight on the lead leg or not. To allow a calf kick through, in order to land counter strikes upstairs.

A valid criticism of Adesanya in those fights would be that he got preoccupied in a leg kicking battle, going tit-for-tat, which made him predictable, interrupted his pace and his game plan. He made adjustments to that in the 2nd UFC Periera fight.

Saying he's "terrible at defending leg kicks" is just a bad take.

I've often wondered why people didn't kick guys like Jones or Adesanya's legs more. Seems like the obvious strategy.

Santos almost won with that strategy as did gustaffson to a lesser extent in the first fight. The issue is people fear the takedowns and also because jones' insane reach means he can still punch you at kicking range.

That and he wants to duck thr rubber match and paddy cake bore fans out of arenas again.

Does he knows how to check leg kick? Obviously. Is he doing that in his fights? Almost never. Obviously everyone might get some leg kicks. But there are some fighters who are very talented about defending them like Aldo that after the first time he checks your kick you see people stop doing leg kicks for the entirely of the fight as it hurts them too much. Checking Pereira leg kick is probably the hardest thing to do because he do it so fast without moving any part of his body besides of his leg so you can't see it coming. However every other fighter he fought against including people he beaten could leg him kick almost freely without worry about the check which again could hurt like hell.

I disagree. I think Adesanya took this challenge overconfident and underprepared. There's no evidence that Jan has higher fight IQ.
Izzy fought Costa at 185lbs, Sept.27, 2020. Fought Blachowicz at 205lbs, March 6, 2021. Fought Vetorri (3 months later) at 185lbs. Do you really think he prepped properly for this match? The size was a problem. If you were really paying attention and not listening to Master Sensei beard kid, you'd see Izzy keeps improving and learning from mistakes. Adesanya beats Jan in a rematch.

Well there you have it. Izzy does know how to defend, he is making a tactical decision (for better or worse) in the fight. That's not the same thing as having terrible defence.
Dustin Poirier had to make similar tactical decisions when fighting Justin Gaethje and taking leg kicks from him. Gaethje's threat of calf kicks and inside/outside leg kicks preceded him but Poirier focused on boxing offence and sacrificed his leg kick defence as a result. He won the fight by TKO. Adesanya won his fight by KO.

Lol so is Jan. I don't need any youtuber i just can watch the fight and see the most obvious 50 45 which you don't get because you are slightly fatter. Jan defeated him because he had brilliant gameplan which after that fight caused Adesanya to be way more defensive fighter. Mostly because he ignored his feints when he needed to and charged fast. Whatever will happen in a rematch it's impossible to know. Also Vettori destroyed Costa despite being lighter so again Extra weight is important for sure but overrated.

because they're afraid to get grabbed by Jones and afraid of a counter punch from Adesanya

Yeah, it's tough to break someone down with kicks from the outside when your kicking distance is still inside their punching range because of 80in and 84.5in reaches. Also Izzy and Jones are constantly kicking themselves and like to break their opponents rhythms.
