Wells reminds me of Semelsberger in having very little technical ability but extreme athletic ability and power so it doesn't matter. Semelsberger did a great job of punishing Mathews for fighting wild with no set ups though.
Should be a fun fight with tons of power flying around. No idea who will actually win though.

Funniest part for me is I consider Alves and Mathews to be extremely skilled fighters but they fight so horribly and seem to mentally find ways to lose. They both got Donkey Kong'd by these guys

Wells is primarily a grappler and is actually very technically sound on the ground.

It looks like he's uses a massive amount of brute strength. No doubt he will get his takedowns against most guys of Alves' level and Semelsberger isn't a technical wizard but he was crafty enough and strong enough to stop Mathews from wrestling.
I do think regardless of who wins Semelsberger will keep it standing which will make this a brawl since that's the extent of their stand up games.

I thought they should’ve given Wells a little something more significant, dudes been spectacular in every UFC performance thus far. Time for a too 15 or close to it.

I felt this way, too! His performances have been memorable, and he's not getting any younger at 35. I like this fight overall though

I was actually wondering today when Wells would finally get another fight.

Semelsberger probably has a cardio advantage and the cleaner striking. Wouldn't surprise me if he can hit almost as hard as Wells. Seems to carry that power late, too. That said, his TDD isn't uncrackable and the last hard-hitting athletic/brute strength power-wrestler he went up against was able to take him down almost at will and hold him down for quite some time (i.e. AJ Fletcher) all while threatening multiple subs. If Wells gets his takedowns in, I think he's going to be very heavy on top and possibly even finish the fight with his solid ground game. But his historical takedown accuracy actually isn't that great in the UFC despite having shot a pretty significant amount of attempts.

I'll be rooting for Wells, but I'll probably pick Semelsberger by Decision or late TKO. If he can survive the storm of heavy hands and power-wrestling in Round 1, I think Wells will fatigue and Semelsberger will out-volume him, win the scrambles, and potentially even hurt him on the feet.

I like this one, solid enough fight. Semelsberger by decision.
