He definitely deserves credit if he beats Jones, even if Jones is fat and coming off a lay off of 3 years.

Jones is way more experienced, he had his first pro mma fight in 2008, while Gane had his first pro bout in 2018. Yeah that mans more mileage and stuff, but also more experience and skill
 
Islam at the moment is getting shit on via social media and MMA Community for beating arguably the number 1 fighter on the planet. If Gane beats Jones the reception will go way worst.

If Gane wins (which is a big if, admittedly), I'm slightly concerned that he may not get the credit he deserves. The things that are making me feel this way are the same arguments people are using to argue in support of Jones winning the fight, i.e. "Jon just wasn't hungry & motivated against OSP/Smith/Santos/Reyes and didn't show up that night!" A lot of people are using that to support their case for Jon winning the bout, but if Gane wins cleanly I feel the same rhetoric will be twisted around to undersell the loss for Jones and the win for Gane. It'll instead become: "Oh, well, what do you expect? Jon was off for three years, fighting an elite guy a weight class up, wasn't motivated anymore because of all the drugs and the legal issues, he's already reached the pinnacle of the sport anyway. 2012 Jon would have smoked that Frenchman like nothing!!!111!"

It's HW, each and every champ has been and will be discredited for fighting cans or washed up fighters.

So GSP sucker punched Ciryl Gane, but Bisping would never let him get away with it?
And someone is pregnant? Either by Jon Jones or Jan Blachowhich? You're saying Glover is too old to be the father?
 
There's a difference between Jan and Gane, though: Jan had nothing to gain; he was already the champ. Cyril will become the new HWT champ, and any time his reign with the title is brought up, Jon Jones's name will be in that sentence.

Look, I don't care how long Jones has been out, or how many powdered donuts he's consumed in training. If you beat Jon Jones in the cage, you deserve to have your name mentioned with legitimacy until you prove yourself otherwise.

lack of HW frame? He's 6'4 with a 85 inch reach. He was always skinny at LHW so he put on some weight.
Guess what? Cain didn't have a 6 pack either. Neither did Werdum or Fedor.

If Jon loses it's gonna be because:

he hasn't fought in 3 years
and he's getting old.

You all keep thinking that the guy who nearly got beat by Tuivasa and got outwrestled by Ngannou is somehow the ultimate and an unbeatable HW and Jon has no chance.

Not saying Jon will win, but some of these arguments are just ridiculous.

Jon is an ATG, the LHW GOAT and arguably the all-round GOAT of the sport. Regardless of his condition or if he's past it, you deserve props if you beat him

I am absolutely praising Jan. The man is a warrior, took that fight no problem even though everyone screamed “GSP - Bisping reprise”.

If a dwarfed Jones is beating the living hell out of Gane, who coasted and stalled the previous round, going on to get saved by the bell as his way to end the fight as the "winner" I'm sure, deservedly so, he'll get similar treatment for similar actions and outcome.
