I think it's better for his public image if he makes weight, beats a contender and then fights for the title. As everyone is always just remembered for their last fight, and if he gets gifted a title shot off of an 8.5 pound weight miss, it looks bad for him and the company

Agreed. That debacle and the attitude following it should not be rewarded. Instead of being humble and apologetic for his absolute unprofessionalism, he was a complete moron. And claiming to fight/smesh everyone, and then avoiding match ups is a weak look, regardless of the agenda.
