Pretty sure Khamzat Khimaev is fighting Paulo Costa next

Khamzat will probably get the next WW title shot without having to fight again. Would be bullshit because he missed weight so badly, plus the Shavkat/Neal & Colby/Belal winners would be more worthy.

Costa will probably fight Strickland or Cannonier.

They aren't giving Costa the Khamzat bout when he's currently on the last fight on his contract.
Imagine the cluster fuck if Costa beat Khamzat and then left into free agency, the UFC would have shot themselves in the foot.

I'm not against the fight itself since it would be very entertaining and be a good introduction for Khamzat at middleweight, the risk/reward factor is just not worth it right now considering Costa seems to have no intention resigning with the UFC.

Someone like Du Plessis, Muniz or Whittaker makes more sense IMO.
Tbh I have a feeling they're trying to do the Whittaker fight since they're putting him on the sidelines for something after the Perth fight cancellation, however they most likely want to give Khamzat more time to prepare because he'll need to put on some more mass in the next few months to properly transition to that division.

Making sense has very little to do with if a fight gets made.

I mean it could happen, Costa is pretty dangerous and is definitely a solid top ten middleweight so it's not a completely ridiculous outcome.

Personally I still favor Khamzat in that one, I just don't think it'll be an easy fight.
 
I do think it's the fight that makes the most sense, but I'll believe it when I see it.

I mean Khamzat is pretty high in the rankings now. He can't fight nobodies.
At MW I think the only other fight that might be more favorable is against Strickland, but he's ranked pretty low, so that might not be even a possibility anymore.
WW is a bit different, but who knows if he can make that weight.

Oh for sure, If he goes up to middleweight he should be fighting top ten IMO.
We'll have to see what happens, I'm guessing his next move is MW right now by how things are going but things can always change.
