Obviously at HW it doesn't make as much sense to get your body fat down.

But I've seen some softer fighters in lower divisions who seemed to lose extra water weight instead of fat, or choose to remain lighter.

Tim Boetsch although in decent shape looked a bit soft several times, maybe it's just his body composition. I believe he was a middle weight.

Why so interested
Curious to know if there were successful fighters who were keeping higher body fat instead of more muscle. Basically trying to see if it was as worth trying to squeeze into a lower weight class as it often seems.

And to see how well power from fat weight compares to power from muscle weight.

HW: Chris Barnett
LHW: Ed Herman (2021)
MW: Jacob Malkoun
WW: Pete Rodriguez
LW: Chris Gruetzmacher
FW: Everyone is in shape
BW: Everyone has abs
FLW: Everyone has abs

I have a theory that it's not good for the company for fighters to be fat so it's discouraged in various ways. Look at the popularity of Anthony Joshua: a lot of it was about aesthetics, in particular his bulging muscles and low BF %. Had he been fat, do you think he'd have been as popular or marketable?
