“I was going to get paid $75,000 more to go do BKFC,” Sanchez told MMA Junkie Radio. “But being the Diego Sanchez that I am, I believe in myself and all the skills and the knowledge and the wisdom that I’ve attained over this course of the last 20 years, and the way my career ended in the UFC was not Diego Sanchez fashion. That was orchestrated by my handler, and so I really wanted to truly finish my mixed martial arts legacy and career my way. Diego Sanchez intuition, intuitiveness, working through whatever I’ve got to work through, but training smart and doing my martial arts.”

Sanchez, who signed a three-fight deal with Eagle FC, will face fellow ex-UFC fighter Kevin Lee (18-7) in the main event of Eagle FC 46 on March 11. Coming off a tough battle with COVID-19 which rendered him hospitalized and facing a fighter who’s a decade younger, Sanchez knows he’s in for a tough test, but he insists he’s ready.

“Now it’s my time to go out there and show my true skills because with Kevin Lee, he’s 29, and I’m 40, and he’s a very athletic man,” Sanchez said. “So with that being said, going into this fight, the only thing that can really win me this fight is skill. Skill and understanding, timing, speed and making the right move at the right time with zero hesitation.

“So that’s what I’m doing. I’m in shape. I’m getting in the best shape I could get in in six weeks, and I’m coming with my A game. I’m excited for 165. It’s a new weight division. My frame fits that division, so it’s looking good, and I’m excited for it.”

He should have negotiated for 5 rounds. His only chance is to withstand the first 2 rounds of Lee, then pour it on late. I think rounds 4 and 5 would be winnable.

Wouldn't be surprised if this plays out like Ellenberger vs Diego, which would have been Diego's best win imo. Jake was legit top 5 at the time.

It's a good move by Diego though his strength is definitely his grappling. I'd get so frustrated when he would try to be a stand and bang guy..

Man, I pray Diego takes out Kevin Lee…the best fighter in the world..lol

Sanchez is insanely bad.

It's not just the Fabia stuff, he was getting stopped routinely in the first round before he mentally capitulated.

Kevin Lee is going to destroy him, and I don't think it will be a very competitive fight.

It's an expensive 'story', but if Eagle don't care about the money, neither do I.

Wait wait wait.. It is my understanding that this is for the inaugural EFC 165 belt. But the fight is 3 rounds?? Lmao.

No, from what I heard they want to do a few matches before having the belt contested
So this is a main event at a new weight class in a 3 round fight featuring 2 UFC castoffs? And both are supposedly getting paid more than “most”
UFC champions?? It’s fucking worse than I ever imagined.

U guys forgot that Diego made some sick kid dream come true? We have to remember the good also u know

What I have to say concerning Diego's IQ is fighter bashing, so I'll keep it to myself.
