Just noticed that Anthony Smith was on a 3 fight win streaks with 1st round stoppage for each bout

I've got a lot of respect for how he's gone about it too. He got a pretty lackluster title shot, lost it, beat the ghost of Gus, then lost 2 more. After losing every shred of momentum, despite the fact he was a high ranking former title challenger still in the top 10, he never seems to have pulled that "not fighting backwards" bullshit.

He was #6 when he fought Clark who was unranked.
He was still #6 when he beat #13 Crute
And he was still #6 when he beat #11 Spann.

It's been a 16 month build-back tour with 3 first round finishes, 2 performances of the night, and a risk each time for basically no actual reward other than proving he should still be where he is.

Considering the current state of the division and all the lined up challengers, he might just need 1 more fight before a title shot again, depending on who.

Smith has never been a complainer. More fighters should take notes.

I haven't. He keeps making me money.

Smith is a bit of a front runner. When it's not going his way he starts to wilt.

He beat the shit out of glover in the first rd of their fight. All everybody will remember is the beating he took the rest of the fight

Yup. He looked great and like a real contender, and then he gassed from the output he'd been putting on Glover who impressively was still standing. The fight only turned around then.

And even afterwards a gassed and hurt, and missing teeth, Smith got out of how many submissions and positions? From a grappler like Glover? He got the shit beat out of him sure, but if you didn't come away impressed by his grappling that's a mistake. Nobody else has grappled with Glover like that recently.

It's why since Shogun other than Jones I've bet on him every fight other than Jiri: he's actually a good striker and great grappler. The path to victory is there for him across multiple fronts and it's been relatively easy money when they match him up against these up and comers.
