Alexander Volkanovski questions Max Holloway's UFC 273 backup offer: 'He was never injured'

I don't think that's it.

They moved the fight over, but it is pretty funny how it turned out that he could be the backup for the fight that he was originally set for.

He's the backup for the backup that backed him up, lol.

Alex does bring up an interesting point lol it is kind of weird for Max to pull out with an injury then magically be okay like a week later and be the back up

A week later? Lol.

Max had to get cleared by doctors. There was no time table so it was mere coincidence that he got cleared after the UFC moved the fight back. You think he wilfully dropped out and then suddenly said he'd be the backup? That makes zero sense, lol.

Anyway, this take is a reach by Volk.

In the CFL at least there are levels of injuries. Some guys are listed as “day to day”, and stay on the game roster hoping the injury sorts itself out. Others are put on the “1 game IR” meaning they will definitely not be playing in the next game. While others are placed on the “6 game IR” meaning they will be out at least 4-5 games and bringing them back early carries a penalty.

It’s not weird to wake up one morning and having a kink in your neck that makes most normal activities very hard or impossible to do. You can have a limp one day, and wake up fine the next day.

You can’t judge injuries in black and white. If he was medically not cleared by a certain date the UFC had to move on. But it’s not crazy to heal up certain injuries in the space of a week or two.

Well this thread should be interesting.
Volk fans VS Holloway fans.

Volk is a great fighter and I enjoy watching him fight. His take makes no sense, though. There's really no versus here. And I still don't get why you can't be a fan of two fighters who fought against one another, lol.

I'm a fan of both men, but the fan wars have been hilarious to me.

I just want the third fight to happen already, I would rather both men have full camps for each other though.
A fight with stakes this high should allow these two the appropriate time to prepare for each other and proper camps.

Well that’s just silly, they had two ultra competitive fights, why would he be afraid? I doubt he really believes that, likely just selling the potential future fight.

For what it's worth, rumor is that Max Holloway is down to near the end of his contract, and it's one of the newer 5 year limited ones.

Max tried fighting Khabib on a weeks notice lol
Reminds me of when Holloway pulled out of UFC 222 due to a leg injury:

A month later he posted a picture of himself about to go surfing:

And then a month after that he stepped in as a late replacement for UFC 223:

I don't think Holloway is afraid, but Volk isn't wrong for pointing out this weird set of circumstances.
