Is Chimaev's chance to achieve GOAT status fairly obvious?

If you had to bet your life on it would you say Chimaev achieves pound-for-pound status? Are his chances above 50%? I remember reading he has outstruck his opponents 250-2 combined in the UFC. Then there's this article where Gustaffson is being interviewed not as a fighter, but as a homicide witness in Chimaev's gym:

*I don't care if you dislike this thread.

Nothing about Chimaev is fairly obvious since he hasn't fought anyone good yet.

He might be the next GOAT or the next Zabit or the next Eric Silva or the next Sage Northcutt.
considering the way he handled the leech it is safe to say Chimaev is a legit talent.

Only time will tell if he is the real deal tho.Burns is a good test to see if Chimaev is championship material imo

None of what you are saying is untrue but you can visibly see his skill, strength, and accuracy are levels above everyone else. The same way Jon Jones looked on his way to the top.

I think Chimaev has a decent chance to become the champ.

But, I remember the buildup surrounding Hector Lombard when he came to the UFC. A former Olympic judoka was riding a 25-fight unbeaten streak, much more impressive than Chimaev's current streak. Then he fought a ranked UFC fighter, Tim Boetsch, at UFC 149. Horrible fight, Lombard loses a split decision. He went on to lose 7 of his next 11, with 1 NC.

Believe it or not, Lombard's hype coming into the UFC was as high or higher than Chimaev. Most of Sherdog had him as the future champ / GOAT. So, until Chimaev fights a couple of top 10 guys, it is tough to say how good he will be.

As someone whose been watching mma since Blockbuster VHS days you can just see his technical abilities appear favorable. I don't have the technical language to go deeper but I can't be the only one to see he does everything better than anyone else in his division.

I followed Lombard's impressive Bellator career but I don't agree that Lombard had similar hype. We all watched him take damage back then despite his amazing winstreak, sir.

No, it’s really not clear at this point. The highest ranked fighter he has fought is still only rank 11. If he totally handles Burns. Then the sky is most likely the limit. But I’m from Missouri (the Show Me state)(not literally from there.. lol).

There’s nothing wrong with being cautiously optimistic. I’m not doubting. But, I need to see proof. Plain old common sense, I think.

Betting my life that a new fighter will reach GOAT status? A position that is achieved after multiple years/fights? In MMA?

No i would not be willing to bet my life on that.

So you're betting your life that he doesn't become GOAT. It's either/or

He's only absorbed one significant strike thus far. A storm is coming.

All the guys I mentioned had pretty visible talent too. We'll see.

He's a beast... hope he crushes Usman.

Got a feeling Usman fights two more times (to beat Anderson's streak) and then retires or moves to another division to avoid Cumshot.

I respectfully disagree. Lombard and Shogun had a ton of hype. Lombard, in particular, was the most hyped fighter I can remember.
