Before the fight I believed The Joker is somewhat underrated. Not judging his fighting skills but in terms of his entertainment value. Before this fight, I can't remember the last fight he had that wasn't fun to watch.

Now I didn't expect him to win against Strickland because of the holes that he has been showing in his standup, particularly against Shabazyan. But I also didn't expect the fight to appear so winnable for Jack if he just fought a little smarter each round.

Also it seems like his standup is regressed and getting worse. He doesn't seem to set anything up including his takedowns, and much of his movement seemed like a waste of energy with no purpose.

At 33 years going on 34, I'm beginning to doubt that we'll ever see Jack challenging the top.

Was it simply that Strickland was too good and I'm being harsh on The Joker????

Jack showed up to fight. You can only blame him for not being skilled enough, but not for a lack of trying. He also accepted a lower ranked guy, could've easily complained for a bigger name.

Meanwhile, Sean just kinda seemed to want to defuse Jack without wasting too much effort and move on to better things, which I can't blame him for. It's not like this was for a belt with a packed audience vs someone like Rockhold he'd be eager to wreck. Just a TV card in Dana's backyard with no audience between #6 and #7.

I'm here. He disappointed me a lot too. I'm not the type of fan to quickly say he should find a new camp, but he needs some sort of change, that is for sure. He hasn't improved in years and it's such a shame because physically he's got great attributes: he has good height, great reach, great cardio, strong as fuck.....he just can't find his range at all with his hands and his wrestling just isn't quite good enough to get the fight to where he excels.

It's just frustrating because it seems like he's done nothing with his potential.

Those non-Dagestani/Chechnyan Euro fighters just have no concept of chain wrestling. The rudimentary wrestling they bring just seems very limited in MMA. This is the skill Jack needs to learn if he wants to really do damage at MW, he has a fantastic top game and sub threat but he just doesn't have the wrestling to use them.

It was a disappointing performance. He needs his takedowns/wrestling to be really, really good, and they just haven't quite developed to where they need to be. He's not gonna beat any high level MW striker on the feet, his only path to victory is to get the fight to the ground. That should have been his #1 focus in training the last several years, and unfortunately, it just doesn't seem like he's improved nearly enough in those areas over the years.

It's very hard to get something going when your opponent fights behind the jab with minimal risk. It's like a puzzle in front of you.

Exactly

He couldn't get the takedown
I thought he would, but not surprised he didn't.

Story of the fight

Strickland was always going to win if it stayed standing

So you’re actually pretending you are a fan? Or is it just your shitty thread?

The guy lost a point fight against a clown that pretends he wants to end people’s lives. But his gameplan was just to jab and avoid being taken down?

Holy fuck.. You mean people had the temerity to pick against Strickland??

Sean is a tricky guy. He has good defense. I think Jack was trying, but couldn't find an opening. It was probably frustrating as hell for him too.

I remember watching him fight years ago and being blown away with his takedowns and ability to change levels on guys, and the submission over Kelvin I thought he was a guy with a big future.

Last night he just didn't seem to be making changes mid fight. If the guys just gonna jab you to death you've gotta be willing to take some chances and make it a dog fight or something not just stand there doing the same thing for 5 rounds and lose. He's not exactly a spring chicken either. Seems sort of like a fish out of water when he can't muscle guys around

Exactly, and even if his wrestling doesn't improve much, he can still at least improve how he sets up and times his takedowns..... But the improvements just haven't been there at all

I'm not not gonna diss you bro. But I do find that you typically have a differing view on many topics than I do. And sometimes they are extreme and utterly ridiculous, but to each his own.

However in the OP, I stated that I expected Sean to win. That doesn't mean I can't be disappointed by the way Jack performed and the progression or lack thereof that he's made in his skillset.

He just doesn't seem able to adapt. Not only mid fight, but throughout his career as well. I really hope he can make some changes, but like you said, he's not exactly a young guy anymore. Still, even just a few changes in strategy could help. I wish him the best, but yeah....I was disappointed.

Why would you diss me if I didn’t diss you?

Put rockhold in there too. his standup, aside from the left kick and hook, is not much better.
