Two of the greatest rivalries in MMA history. In which ways were these similar and different?

Who was the better challenger, DC or Colby?
Which pair of fights goes down in MMA history as the more significant one?
Which rivalry involved a higher level of MMA skill?
Which pair of fighters rank higher all-time when all is said and done?
Why are these remembered so much even though the Champion won both matches decisively?

How many top ten wins did Colby have to get his last title shot?

DC/Jones is obviously a higher level fight.

Colby won an interim. DC was a double champ and Jones is in GOAT conversations. I think the answers to these questions are relatively obvious.

DC was only a double champ because Jones popped. Usman is entering GOAT conversation too. Both rivalries are pretty close in terms of level

Jones popped. He was suspended rightfully. DC was the champion. Thanks for clarifying. Colby is nowhere near DC as the B side of this discussion.

Well DC is more accomplished than Colby, but in terms of skills and fighting ability Colby isn’t far behind

He's considerably far behind. Colby hasn't sniffed a non-injury finish in almost six years. He's never won a legitimate title outside of an interim and his best wins are a bloated 155'er in RDA and a far past their prime Lawler and Woodley. DC's knockout win over Stipe will forever be greater than anything Colby has accomplished.

DC is way better than Colby.
Jones is way better than Usman.

DC vs Jones was a real beef.
Usman vs Colby was wolf tickets

Fight between Colby and Usman were lot more competitive.

But legacy wise, not many fights can stack up to Jones-DC, especially first one and Colby-Usman ain't one of them.
I rate Colby and Usman very highly however.

I came here expecting statements and only found questions.

Covington is way better at being an asshole. Cormier is just an asshole and fakes like he's a good guy. The worst kind of dishonesty. Plus cormier cried a lot more when he lost. Plus, Cormier is still bitter about getting his ass beat by Jones too, and he's retired. When discussing parallels, Cormier just loses out in so many ways that his talent doesn't really make up for it.

DC also beat Bigfoot, Barnett, Mir, Rumble Johnson x2, Gus, BB… Colby isn’t close. Not even mentioning Anderson and Hendo because they were so far past prime.

The primary parallel here is that Colby is Usman’s son, like DC is Jones’ son.

Another somewhat tangential
parallel is the upcoming fight between Usman’s kids — Colby and Jorge — as is the possible rematch between Adesanya’s two kids — Marvin and Paulo.

The most curious takeaway for me from all of this is that all four of Usman’s and Adesanya’s kids are despicable dirtbags, while Jones’ many kids, including the likes DC and Alexander, are pretty decent humans. Somewhat counterintuitive.

Lol DC got his LHW title shot off of beating barista Cummings and 1-3 #6 Henderson. Then his next off losing to Jones.

DC/Jones is obviously a higher level fight.

It's really not considering DC clearly wasn't on Jones' level (to the point he even dropped his belt rather than try defending it against Jones again), meanwhile Usman/Colby actually are fairly evenly matched.

Relative skill between the two fighters matters.

Colby won an interim. DC was a double champ and Jones is in GOAT conversations. I think the answers to these questions are relatively obvious.

Colby only won an interim because he got screwed out of his unification shot against Woodley so that the UFC could rush through Till to one before he could lose, and then also give Usman a shot over him for beating the same guy he already had for the interim. We all saw that he should've been undisputed champ had he gotten his unification bout.

At the end of the day Jones/DC were 2 one sided fights, and a one sided press conference brawl on top of that, while Usman/Colby were two back and forth and competitive fights. Only the latter was a rivalry.

Colby was the better challenger (not necessarily better fighter). Don't care who beat who to get to the title fights. Colby was still fighting in the 5th round and actually putting on a great performance in the 2nd fight. Cormier wasn't concious (with all due respect, love DC as a fighter and person).
