“I think Rose,” Jedrzejczyk responded on the Punchin’ In podcast when asked who hits harder between Namajunas and Zhang. “In the second fight, I felt she was hitting pretty hard. But you know who hit the hardest? Valerie Letourneau. She was the hardest puncher I ever fought. Valerie then Rose.

“They were only talking about her grappling, but I really think [Rose’s] striking is top-level. Very precise, good timing, and very, very strong. No, [Weili did not feel very strong]. Same with [Jessica] Andrade. It only looks strong, you know?”

UFC 261 in April 2021 acted as a historic moment for Namajunas when knocking out Zhang in round one. She became the first woman to win a UFC title twice has since defended once when rematching Zhang at UFC 268 in November.

The bout was a much closer outing than the first as Namajunas picked up a split decision. While many arguments have been made for either combatant, Jedrzejczyk believes the judges got the scores right on that fateful night in Madison Square Garden.

“Weili Zhang doesn’t know how to stand up, bring the fight back [up],” Jedrzejczyk said. “She doesn’t know how to grapple at a good level, I feel like.”

The 34-year-old former champion has one fight remaining on her UFC contract and the hope is that it winds up being one of decent importance.

“At the end of the year, I told them I would love to be back by the end of March,” Jedrzejczyk said. “I told them I was planning to be back here to the gym. But I need some time with my coaches, teammates, all of you guys. And I can’t complain. All the girls from one to 10 are booked. It was my decision to not fight for such a long time. I’m just training and waiting. I think we’re just going to get the big fights, that’s it.

I don't think JJ should walk back into an immediate title shot (it's not to her benefit anyways with nearly 2 years inactivity) but I think a #1 contender's fight vs the winner of Marina Rodriguez vs Yan Xiaonan would make sense.

“All the girls from one to 10 are booked.”

Interesting. Does that mean Weili is already booked???

Joanna mentioned that she specifically built her business partnerships to be long lasting family like. In for a penny in for a pound type of deals where she is part owner/investor not just a face. Like the Diaz bros she is apparently working on her own supplement company and is part owner of the juicer with her initials on it.

Yeah the UFC has zero leverage on her. She knows her value and is marching to the beat of her own drums and doesn't seem to give two shits what anybody thinks about that. That does in part explain why she is with CAA. They actually fight for their fighters.

Also love the jab vs the supposed main event of Izzy vs Yoel being boring when discussing pay/value. She clearly thinks fighters that are willing to risk more to be entertaining should be paid more. Can't argue with that.

Lots of other little tidbits in there.

well rose knocked her out, but weili turned her into something that resembled an alien and she was crying in her room after that or something.

Lol she probably cried after losing her belt to rose too

I think the weight cut is going to hit her the hardest, since she insisted on that boob job. She's got no body fat to give up now she has to compensate for those plastic balls in her chest. C'mon lady, you weren't exactly a sex symbol.

easier to cut weight with more lean mass as muscle holds water..

but yes the take tiddies wont help.

I mean, she had them for the Weili camp and it's fair to say they didn't impact her cut or performance seemingly at all.

There was a head butt before the swelling.

115 lb women do not punch hard enough to cause a hematoma like that. That doesn't even happen in male HW fights.

It happens from the impact of a hard object IE a head butt.

While true Joanna is the exception in that she has so much subdermal scar tissue that she very easily bruises. Andrade hit her once, while she was moving backwards angling off, really hard at the start of R1 and immediately it created a big mouse on her forehead. That was the first hint that her career was over should she ever drop the belt as any close rounds would go to her opponent due to "damage".

It's kind of a sad way for combat sports athletes to go out because it speaks more to their entertaining style that caused that damage over time and not to their performance and losses vs opponents as they would have won some of those fights otherwise. But 99.9% of people in the community conflate the two because critical thinking and evidenced based analysis doesn't really exist in a community with egos and emotions.

EDIT: Anyway in this instance it did start with the headbut which she caused by poorly aborting a takedown.

Anyone else remember her post fight interview from the Rose 2 fight, "Rose doesn't hit hard, I hit hard! Numbers don't lie, I won that fight."

Guess she finally knows that was an L
Joanna looked stunned and walked backwards every time Rose landed clean in that fight. Rose hits a lot harder than most strawweights are used to. Even girls who have fought at 135, like Valentina and Andrade, have said that Rose hits hard.

She had already gotten the implants when she faced Weili, but she hasn't fought in 2 years and she looks like she walking around at 140 lbs these days. Making weight could be a problem.
