I say that as a Ngannou fan. I liked what i saw from Ngannou against Gane. I liked that he favored his grappling and made the right adjustments. I think he has a great team with him. And i don't understand why some talk about panic wrestling when we watch MMA. Ngannou felt strong and paced himself for a five rounds fight.

BUT i think young HW Cormier would have given him problems almost everywhere. His pace, his level changes, his low center of gravity would have been really efficient against the cage with big Frank. You have to give him a dog fight, not a karate point fight (i like Gane too, but he didn't come with the right gameplan).

Anyway i think Cormier could have been the best HW ever had he stayed there from the beginning. We didn't call him black Fedor for nothing !

He wouldn't. DC was scare to death of Android Silva at LHW, you think he would have played with Ngannou? He would have tried to wrestle for his dear life, but I think he would've gotten ktfo by Ngannou.

People are going to say oh Gane took Ngannou down, but sometimes when you are not expecting it, it happens. Rumble took DC down. So did Gus. It doesn't make him a bad wrestler. Yeah Ngannou isn't the best grappler, but he just needs enough time to keep it standing, and I believe he put enough time and effort to improve his TDD after Stipe fight and he did.

Ngannou has a granite chin. Big Foot on the other hand, though I'm not sure when it was cracked, or if it was trt he rightfully needed.,,doesn't.

Josh got outgrappled by Nog, who doesn't have the best TDs out there, but Josh doesn't have the 1/10th of the threat Ngannou possess on the feet. And I really think Ngannou improved a lot on his TDD after Stipe fight.

It'd be a grave error to judge how DC-Ngannou would go based on those fights.

And Ngannou is no Black beast. Gane put a clinic on Lewis, but couldn't really do much at all against Ngannou. Yeah he landed more, but nothing of ANY significance. He was literaelly landing, and landing with some power, and hit him with pretty much everything he can against Lewis.

Heres some advice. Watch Ngannou vs Cain. Cain being a superior version of DC. Although that version of Cain was not the best one. Also watch Ngannou vs Stipe. Stipe beat DC remember.

Cormier has fought guys closer to Ngannou in style though like Rumble and Lewis and I think theirs a case the earlier Cormier would be even better suited to fighting in that fashion being faster and having better cardio.

Getting Ngannou down wouldnt be easy but I could definately see Cormier hustling him agains the cage and standing Cormier isnt really the easiest to head hunt, he doesnt tend to get sloppy with his boxing and has a good chin.

I mean style wise I would say perhaps the worst thing for Cormier might be that Francis has shown a powerful body kick but still I don't think its a total formality that punishes Cormier, you still need good timing on it.

One thing some people underestimate about DC I think is his chin and ability to avoid punches.

Ngannou doesn't put everyone down with a punch, Stipe ate quite a few, and a younger Cormier might do it too.

DC played with Lewis and was competitive against Stipe even at the end of his career, it's fair to say a 2012 Cormier would have good chances to hold the HW belt. Toss up for me, I guess.

Here's some advice. You should add context when talking about fights. Cain had lots of injuries and fucked up knees coming into this fight. He should have stayed retired.
Cormier was almost 40 when he fought Stipe and he clearly was not in his prime anymore. Context, my friend, context.

Saying Lewis is anything similar to Ngannou wasn't very smart a week ago, but it's beyond bonkers now.

Last saturday, Ngannou landed 21 strikes to the body. It is pretty much what it took Stipe (27) to break DC and get his hands low enough to knock him out.
I grant you, it wasn't prime DC. But there is a blueprint.

He shot for a double and got caught right on the chin with a super short range uppercut. Knees and injuries don't play a role in that.
It might have been bad luck, the punch certainly won't land 10/10 times, but it landed that time.
