News Jimmy Smith was fired because he never fought for the UFC

It sucks for Jimmy for sure, no question about it.

But there has to be a place for retired UFC fighters to continue plying their trade that isn't just coaching.

Keeping fighters as analysts and commentators is a good idea, and I support it.

The sport needs more pathways not fewer, but it's a shame for career pros like Jimmy.

What’s Jimmy doing these days? Is he commentating anywhere? Last I heard from him he had his own YouTube channel which seemed like a bust.

To be honest I like the direction they went with hiring more ex-fighters to do commentary. Anik has the anchor/play-by-play position secured, so what did we need Jimmy Smith for? Don't get me wrong, I really like Smith and it's a shame he had to stoop to WWE to make a living, but they didn't need him.

And he wasn't "fired". There's a big difference in being fired and not being renewed.

It was cheaper to have the ex-fighters do it
"You did an awesome job! So what you're a black belt in Jiu Jitsu . ? Gettin' an awesome submission there..... I wanna tell me, What you see, let's go ahead and see by the fight...what you saw......in the ring. Seraldo Babalu, the best light heavyweight... of the night."
