Everyone at my house was thrilled at Ngannou’s newfound well rounded game…Why so negative ?

Francis is known for speculator knockouts. A lay and pray victory is a lot less exciting. People don't root for Ngannou because of his charisma, so you care less about whether he wins and more about how he wins. Also, after the second round, you could tell Francis was gassed and likely wouldn't get a knockout, which put a damper on the rest of the fight.

And the post-fight interview was a disaster.

I even saw him threatening a triangle.
On come on, he did not. That was DC hyperbole.

But I do agree the fight was fun and the folks at the movie theater that were watching it as well had a blast and would going nuts for Ngannou's takedowns. Sherdoggers just have to kick on their online negative persona and bash anything and everything seeking attention.

I would say the fact that he didn't do ANYTHING offensive whatsoever with his top position is a fair criticism.

Honestly you could even say that was the most blatant display of Lay and Pray in a featured fight in years.

Can you name any other big fight in recent years where a guy stayed on top for 2-3 minutes without doing any damage or attempting a submission?

I think I saw a stat that he landed less than 5 significant strikes in over 8 minutes of top control, so that is pretty much the definition of lay and pray- holding on and posing no threat.

I'm not surprised he got the w but it is pretty clearly within the realm of criticism.

I was simultaneously impressed with Francis grappling and pissed that an All time exciting matchup played out like a high school wrestling match. Yeah I'm a Gane fan but it's not so much that he lost as the fight itself. It gave me flashbacks to Blaydes vs Volkov. Was really really looking forward to this. Just meh.

I was rooting for Francis. It was a really bad fight. I watch for entertainment not to be irritated for 25 mins.

Cuz they expected a quick ko and instead it looked like they were playing twister for most of the fight.
The fight honestly went pretty much how I expected it to even though I was rooting for Gane to win.
