who appeared to have a bright future, but after a loss or two, never really got back on track.

Gustaffason (LHW)- Looked amazing in his run to the UFC title. Was 15-1 before the title shot. Would go 3-4 after the title fight loss. Not sure what he's up to nowadays.

Darren Till (WW/MW) - Also looked pretty great in his run to the welterweight title fight. Was 17-0-1 before the title fight. He's 1-3 since. It even looked like he actually found a way out against Brunson, which is never good.

Gunnar Nelson (WW) - Should be at LW, but whatever floats his boat. Still on the bandwagon, though most have abandoned the ship. I guess you could argue he's a grappler first. He was 14-1-1 going into a fight against Maia on a absolutely stacked card, got grapplefucked to oblivion, and is 3-3 since.

I loved Till and Nelson very much as a prospect when they were coming up the ranks, and Gane I had my eyes on as well for a year or two. I guess just like how I was on Ngannou bandwaggon when he was coming up the ranks too. Pity someone has to lose.

I hope that, if Ngannou does knock Gane out to another dimension, though I do think Gane is rightfully favored and a better striker, and more likey Gane is to win than the other way around, but Ngannou is much better than black beast in my opinion and got that death touch and he's not just a wilder brawler in my opinion that some think he is, hopefully it doesn't lead to Gane joining that group of elite European prospects/strikers who were great once, which could look like
Gane(HW)/Gus(LHW)/Till(MW/WW)/Gunnar(WW)

I suppose you could have Conor up there to make the list complete, Conor(LW/FW), I followed the guy from the beginning. But I personally think he ruined himself, or the money or the lifestyle or whatever it was, unlike the aforementioned fighters.

He won't lose. He's already been there with the other 2 hardest hitting knockout artist and he beat them decisively.
Cyril's style is a knockout artist's worst nightmare.

Ngannou is better than Roz and Lewis. Yeah I know what happened Lewis-Ngannou fight, but still I rate Ngannou much highly. There was a reason why Ngannou was a huge fav over Lewis and Rozenstruik.

Gane is a superior striker with an exceptional defense and great technical ability, but it just takes a one punch.

I'd favour Gane but it could go either way. And I think it won't be close one way or the another. Gane could make Ngannou look bad, or Ngannou could make Gane look bad in a shorter fight.

Lets be honest sir, Till is not that good.
He KOd Wendell, and Cowboy...other than that he was a decision machine.

They hyped him up like he was the next big thing from the UK, but he was never gonna get a title.

Arnold Allen is the best UK prospect right now, and he barely gets any love.

Gus was close to touching greatness, but ai have a feeling his heart was never fully in it after the Jones loss (which I thought he won to be honest).

Gunny was a damn good fighter, but that Maia fight showed him that there are levels to this, and he wasn't even close to Maia's level.
I honestly think that loss shattered his confidence from top to bottom.

Conor of course was cursed by fame, and the delusional hypet hat was put on him.
He also never fixed his holes.

Hope not, his TDD is still untested.

But this is HW, Cormier is out, Stipe is probably done, even a HW Till would be a contender.

Also Gustafsson could've been champ in a normal division, having to fight Jones and Cormier for the title is just unfortunate.

He gives me Gus vibes in the way that Gus was really fucking good at striking, and people couldn't take him down (counting out Davis in one of his first fights, and then later in his career)

And the reason for that seemed to be that he had put ENORMOUS amounts of time towards his striking, his footwork, and his wrestling

because when he ends up on his back, he has nothing

You have to wonder when a guy like Gane comes in late in life, started his kickboxing pro debut at 25 years of age, and now a few years later is doing so well in MMA with what he has shown us

You know that means there are some serious holes, most likely it's his bottom game because it's much smarter of him to just make sure people can't grab on to him easily, and for him to stop TDs when they do

If he ends up on his back somehow, Ngannou might brutalize the fuck of him

(Yes I know Gane has subs)

All great points. And I'm still with you on the Gunnar train. I wish him nothing but success (and some more frequent fights for Christ's sake).

Rare Gunnar Passenger in 2022! Noice! On it since/before his UFC debut!

I really think he should cut to LW, but oh well.

A hot and heavily promoted prospect, sure, but what made him elite? TKOing Cowboy? It's a miracle the guy didn't get finished by Dalby.

I thought he was an elite prospect. And I don't use elite prospect easily.

I mean, it's easy to shit on the guy, but he did arguably beat Whittaker. The only reason Rob won that is he wrestled. He outstruck Wonderboy as well, which could be arguably as well.

It's not like Jon Jones is there waiting to snatch his sou......oh.

That's a legitimate point. Great point that not many seems to be mentioning if at all. Ngannou might try to wrestle him too, but we will see. If his gas tank is good enough, I don't think it's a bad plan. I'm fairly sure he will kick more too unless he knocks him out super early. I just don't know if Ngannou has a cardio for offensive wrestling without gassing himself out.

I thought cheick kongo would make a ufc title run… never materialized

Kongo came up through the UFC at the worst possible time the early 2010s. Only time the division had any sort of real depth. He's an elite HW right now in Bellator but Coker has wasted the last few years of his career. It's really fucking sad. Dude's going to age out he's like 47.
