Seriously? After all this time some people still act as though he's the greatest Middleweight talent to ever exist. In 10th pro fight he knocked off a GOAT. Kudos and hespect. But after that, his best simply wasn't good enough.

I'll admit he has one of the best skill sets to make him a difficult matchup for anyone, the best example for me being his fight with Kelvin. But there is absolutely NO reason for people to be so confident that he is a lock to beat anyone from his fighting generation or the one after.

His strength was his wrestling/grappling, as well as his size and length. He had a decently effective offensive striking arsenal but relied on his chin a LOT.

Also his fight IQ was somewhat questionable IMO. When he did get the takedowns, often times he was to eager to advance position or go for submissions that usually allowed his opponents to stand up, ie the fight with Gegard.

People say that " the Weidman that fought Machida could beat anyone", but the evidence disagrees. Yoel owned Machida as well as Brunson. Yoel also owned Weidman along with everyone Weidman fought from his own fighting generation.

Like JJ made his reputation by beating big names on the down-slide.

Unlike JJ couldn't solidify his reputation against the up and coming new generation.
The guys Jon beat on his way up couldn't beat Jon at any point in their careers. And the only ones who probably weren't at their best was Rampage and Shogun.

Jones was simply a savage freak of nature at the time.

One of the major issues which hurt Chris was his neck surgeries, I think after that he lost a lot of his abilities. Neck injuries are very serious.. most surgeons won't even do them because a slight millimetre wrong and thats it you're dead, you have to go to a specialist surgeon, as most won't touch necks. Its a very serious injury and especially for a wrestler like himself.

I noticed after all the neck surgeries that he became much more stiff and slow.. he was always quite slow.. but he became even slower after that and I don't think he can really do the things he wants. I'm not making excuses for him but he really did become a shell after all the neck injuries. He looks beyond stiff now, he moves like Oleynik out there these days

I guess I could pick someone at 185 that could be seen as overrated, but I just don’t think there are any former 185lb champs that are overrated. The worse champ to date at 185 has to be Bisping, but I doubt he was every highly rated.

At his prime was a great fighter. He peak and went down, nothing else.

I'm not going to downplay his injuries. But he seemed to move fine against Romero. He just got outsmarted and outclassed in certain spots. He looked very good against Jacare, as far as his offensive kickboxing goes. But we know how that ended.

Pre Jacare fight, what fight do you feel the injuries visibly hindered him???

whoever ended Anderson's time as champion was always going to face this kind of historical scrutiny, because beating him in that fashion was such a unique and notable event. I don't think he's overrated, but it's certainly worth wondering why he declined so dramatically

Dude, it's just a thread about Weidman before he was all ruined as a fighter being a guy who could give Adesanya a tough time.

He has some tools that were better than Vettori's, not having the chin or cardio or Marvin, he had certain skills in similar areas that they both like to fight with that Marvin has. I think Weidman's standup was better, as was his takedowns and general grappling.

That said, I'll take Hector Lombar as more overrated than Weidman any day. Weidman is one of the most underrated fighters on Sherdog at this point and his reign gets shit on all the time.

Anderson Silva.

Not sure how to justify 'Most Overrated'.... Was the he the best 185lb'er ever, no way not by a long shot.

Did he beat Silva? Yes and that is amazing but then he beat Lyoto (over the hill), and non-TRT Belfort.

After then he went 2-6, what was so special aside from the Silva KO?

Idk if he was overrated his decline was quick though. Silva was still a decent test for people even past his prime but Weidman handled him easily. Even in his losses he was going good until he wasn't. I wouldn't say people really hold him all that high anyways.

He didn't beat rockhold

I don't know how you could call him overrated after absolutely destroying Silva x 2, Machida and Belfort. And I hate to say it, but his decline coincided closely with USADA

He was pretty good. I've already recently exposed my take that the lack of ability to adapt and made adjustments on the fly was IMO his biggest flaw. And cost him most of his losses.
