Am I the only one who doesn’t like KO artists like Ngannou?

I think Gane will win, but I know Francis could KO anyone who makes a mistake.

Most people seem to love big KO artists like Francis, but I always leave their fights feeling ripped off. Like, I don’t wanna pay $75 for this card (which is really one fight I seriously care about) and see Francis bum rush and windmill KO Gane in 8 seconds. When it happens I always end up thinking “that’s it? It’s over… wasted my money.”

I want wars like Max, Jiri, Gaethje, Usman/Colby, etc. A Francis fight will always either be a flash KO or a 25 minute session where he gasses and stares. There aren’t any fun back and forths in his fight and it’s either a quick KO or boring drawn out decision loss.

This is why Francis is not a fun ppv fighter despite being the greatest KO artist in MMA history. As always, thanks for attending my TED talk.

The public has always been captivated by the mystique of fight ending KO power. I don’t think that’ll ever change.

I remember when boxing ppv’s were $20, until Tyson got out of prison and it literally went to $60+ almost overnight.

I like it, because you are on the edge of your seat for as long as it lasts.

I also like fighters like Max, who you know it's going to be a high output technical performance that will probably go to decisions.

The hard part is when a card has too much of one or the other

WTF hole point fight to KO no go distant fuck moron

If you’re only adverse to watching KO artists is because you paid money, the solution is don’t pay money to watch.
Split money with friends or family by throwing a get together, watch it through other means, etc.

I like it at Heavyweight.

I didn't like it when Ronda was arm barring everyone in seconds. It just felt anti-climatic. The introductions were longer than the matches.

UFC's problem is the overblown presentation and intros. Just get to the fights already. I don't need Buffer screaming for 10 minutes for a 30s fight.

Not a problem with KO artists, but i do feel robbed with sub 30 seconds fights, like Aldo vs Conor for instance, the build up for that fight was HUGE, months of waiting only for it to last 13 seconds, similar for Masvidal vs Askren, i dont have an issue with 1st round finishes, but way too short fights always feel like a let down.

didn't his last fight disprove this though
it was neither a boring 25 minute loss or a flash KO

That was a downside to some watching Tyson. Went to the bathroom and it was over. Same usually happens with Ngannou's fights.

But this is one of the best HW match-ups ever. It has the chance for back and forth because Gane can outpoint, yet Ngannou can hurt him at any point. And because Ngannou is taller than Gane. It's difficult to stay on the outside against a taller guy. Volkov had some success, but doesn't have the speed and power.

There's definitely pros and cons, trade offs, etc. to every style. I agree it can feel very lame when a guy with (seemingly) little to no technique, squints or closes their eyes and bum rushes and kos someone. It looks very flukey/unskilled.

However, that's why when a technical fighter comes in and ends up taking advantage of that style's shortcomings and systematically picks apart the brawler, it's beautiful to watch. But you can make the argument that if these brawlers weren't as effective as they can be, the technical fighter wouldn't look AS impressive. Knowing that one slip up, one mistake, can end it is what makes it thrilling. You're either gonna see a brutal finish, or a piece of art by the technical fighter.

Maybe a weird example but, if you ever watched game of thrones: The mountain vs oberyn. One was a technical fighter with aesthetically pleasing style, the other was a brute force brawler. Both dangerous in their own ways.

I like the Belal Muhammads, the Cyril Ganes and the Ngannou's of the world. Every style is necessary for this to be called the most dynamic combat sport in the world. So many variables. So hard to stay undefeated. So hard to bet on.

Masvidal's KO of Askren was mezmerising to watch. You didn't like that TS?

I love KO artists. I also love brawlers that get into back and forth wars. I also love technical strikers that pick apart their opponents. I also love high level grapplers that dominate their opponents on the ground.

I love fights.
