Looking through the middleweight rankings, and I'm seeing that there's no really high level wrestlers. I know Izzy fought Romero, but Romero was old and never really used his wrestling; and that was a shit fight altogether.

How would have Izzy done against a prime champion Weidman? The won who beat Silva, Machida, and Belfort back-to-back? Weidman usually had the means to get people to the ground, but he seemed to have issues keeping them there, but when they were there he did some damage. Curious to see how this would have gone. What do you guys think?

Prime, non spinning wheel kick, pre "still my boy" Weidman would pressure Izzy to a decision win. That version of Weidman was savvy enough with his striking and had the chin to avoid the danger on the feet, and had better wrestling than Jan to drag Izzy into a grappling fight

I think ”Prime Weidman” would whoop Adesanya. Weidman is/was hell of a grappler and was a very strong middleweight.

Adesanya is very dangerous on the feet and tough to get down, but I feel like he has been in a right place in the right time to have the success he’s had. We’ve seen Brunson fight recklessly and get KO’d, we’ve seen him fight tentatively and ”scared” and that’s what we saw against Adesanya. I think we’re now seeing the best version of Brunson right now and he could pose a danger to Adesanya now.

This is a fantasy match up though and no one is right or wrong. Weidman seems to be done, pretty much, and Adesanya is still undefeated at MW. We’ve seen that he’s beatable.

it would be important to know what version of Gynobender Weidman would face. Gyno irks me because i don't like cocky cheaters, but he is showing a remarkable progression. Early Gyno would be wrestlefucked by Weidman.

Weidman downfall was in my opinion (Apart that he always faced killers) related to his inhability to make adjustements during fights. He was brutally KOed in several fights that he was "winning" and once that everyone figured him out, it was over.

Prime Weidman was (T)KOed like 5x

Prime Weidman claim to fame was beating a 38 year old Silva,a 36-37 year old Machida(who was considered past his best after being strangled by Jon Jones) and a deflated 40 year old TRTless Belfort, who hadnt fought in over a year

Stylebender by KO

Hmm probably, prime Weidman was an absolute force.. he beat a relatively prime machida in damn near a 5 round karate point fighting match lol not to mention his power, wrestling and submissions.. he also had great timing which would help against izzy and a good chin.

Both current Weidman and Rockhold beat Izzy

Luckily for Izzy he won’t have to fight them

Bisping would have beat Weidman at any stages of their career.

Prime Weidman is much better fighter than Israel in my book.

Weird man always seemed slow to me. Probably Uber strong but Israel has reach and speed.

I like Chris. It just feels like another one of those dudes who were running hot through an aging division and pretty quickly all the older vets faded out of the top 10 and were replaced by monsters. (Not that he really lost to the monsters that replaced the top 10) I just think the level of competition rises quickly when older fighters get to hang around in the top 10 off previous accomplishments

Probably.he koed silva 2x and look how bad izzy looked on the mat.

Israel has a better camp, the guys at City KB are always super well prepared. He is also at his prime. I think Israel would take it.
