I think Leon is perfectly correct to do what he's doing.
I'm strongly of the opinion that if you win NINE straight fights in an organization, there's no universe where you shouldn't be fighting for a title. Doesn't matter if the strength of opponent isn't there, that's the UFCs fault for setting those fights up.
Fighters have a limited number of fights before they pass their prime. We can't encourage this shit precedent where someone might need as many as 13 fights before an undisputed match like Tony Ferguson. Joining the UFC from scratch to fighting for a title should be a 6 to 8 win streak tops, assuming the strength of opponent is going up appropriately. If you're already established, it should be LESS than that, like 4 to 6.
Edwards has won 9 in a row. He got absolutely shafted with a lot of the matchups and especially with the Nate Diaz matchup (not in money necessarily but in fighter skill perception), where burden was on him not just to win but to win HANDILY otherwise people would say "oh he just beat nate diaz". Now he ACCEPTED the Masvidal fight, Masvidal dropped out, and people are acting like Edwards is a huge bitch for not taking a massively surging Khamzat who is also ranked 10 and technically by rankings isn't a strong argument to give him a title shot. I say it doesn't matter. At NINE fights UFC had more than enough opportunity to escalate opponent strength.
He already deserves the shot and should sit out.
