Maybe you're one of those people who thinks a record is the only thing that decides a rematch, but I'm not.

Nunes was walked down and pummeled. Pushed and broken. So destroyed mentally and physically that she tapped with little resistance.

She was made to look like an amateur who didn't belong in there with a grizzled vet.

That is not a close loss that merits a rematch. It's not like Anderson Silva clowning around against Weidman the first time and getting caught. She was beaten down face to face and had nothing for her opponent.

And the look on her face while getting a whooping was a mixture of exhaustion, fear, and confusion. Her hair was all tussled up. She looked like some kind of cartoon character getting the smackdown and having the little birdies fly around her head. How embarrassing.

Bottom line, someone who took that level of punishment in such a one-sided and embarrassing way does not deserve a rematch. This is like Woodley vs. Usman levels of domination.

She needs to fight another contender and prove she isn't washed up, she doesn't deserve a SNIFF at the title before that happens.

they need to close down 145. that division is a joke.

nunes will get the rematch. there isn't anyone else to match up. Nunes would probably leave the UFC if they gave Val the title shot before her.

She deserves it but it would be better if she doesn't get it right away.
Nunes will get that rematch though and will win decisively, which will cause more inactivity in bw division again as she defends her fw belt.

I don't understand the immediate rematch, we've seen it signal the end of careers like Cody, Anderson, Ronda etc. There are exceptions like Max, but he never lost the belt IMO.

In a world where there is some precedent of dominant champs getting rematches, then she has to get one. However, it's my opinion that that world.. is dumb. Especially when that "precedent" is as an incredible inconsistency as it is under the UFC *cough Aldo cough*

GDR has a pretty recent win over Pena, even arguably deserved the shot more. Val has a win over Pena and seemed eligible for a superfight any time now. Lots of things can be booked. Doesn't need to be Nunes

This seems to be an instance of complaining for the sake of complaining. She’s the apparent ‘GOAT’ women fighter who put in a performance that was far from expected - let’s see if it was just a lapse or if she is declining. (I personally believe it’s the latter).

In this circumstance, criticisms of an instant rematch aren’t warranted.

GDR can't fight at the moment as she won't get vaccinated. Val seems happy at 125 and I think she's more interested in beating Amanda than the actual double champ status. Not really sure who else is viable as a contender at the moment. You'd be stuck using Holly Holm yet again.

She should defend her other belt in my opinion. No need to hold up 2 divisions any longer.
Defend against whom? That’s the reason she didn’t fight at BW for 2 years. There literally was nobody she didn’t already beat. And even GDR has been removed from the BW rankings.

There is nobody, or she’s already beaten everybody. Spencer is retired. Anderson got kicked to the curb. I guess there is Norma DuMont. But then who does Pena fight at BW? Does Holly get yet another TS?

Please tell me you’re not one of those Shevchenko huggers that think it would be badass for her to move up now that the woman that beat her twice is out of the picture?

No surely you can’t be, because that would be hypocritical in regards to the holding up the two divisions stance you’ve taken. Unless Shevchenko vacated the 125 belt.

These 3 divisions are incredibly shallow. A rematch makes sense. If Pena wins, then that puts and end to it. Nunes probably retires, and FW gets shut down. That might actually be the best solution.

I find instant rematches inherently boring. Rematch later down the line if it makes sense, but just trotting out the former champ for a second go.. boring. Creates stalemates like the Cain/JDS fiasco.

I've always been anti-rematch except in draws and *clear* robberies, but under the standards of the UFC, Nunes certainly deserves it.

I hate it though.

If there were a deserving title challenger in the division, I would agree. I don't like immediate rematches either, but there simply isn't anyone else at 135 who's done anything to warrant a title shot.
