I see a lot of people saying this but I don’t agree. Valentina doesn’t press the action like Pena does. She’s purely a counter striker for the most part and I really can’t see her standing in the pocket with Nunes like Pena did.

Pena can do that because she has an iron chin and hits hard. Plus she has the same reach as Nunes. Valentina doesn’t like getting hit and she doesn’t have much power in her hands.

Also, Nunes didn’t take Pena down after the first round because she realised just how good Pena is at fighting off her back. She was able to just lay on top of Valentina when she took her down, but not against Pena who is very good at scrambling and fighting off her back.

Its easy to say Valentina could beat Nunes after seeing that fight, but I think it’s more to do with styles make fights. We saw this version of Nunes because Julianna Pena is stylistically a bad match-up for her.

I think Amanda has Valentina's style figured out no matter what. Of course if she waits for Amanda to start losing fights after being champ for several years in 2 divisions than yeah she'll win. Amanda has been so dominant that no one cant take that away from her. Losing due to father time has no shame innit is my belief

its more to do with Valentina being overrated. The fact that she lost to Nunes after that “performance” shows that she and the rest of the division have no place in the UFC. Her decisioning no name soccer moms brought in to lose does nothing to help her unfortunately.

The phrase " no name soccer moms " is enough to show how much someone pays attention to the sport.

I doubt Amanda trained very hard for that fight

Rematch goes very different

I dont even know who the fuck that was that fought Pena

I would have picked Valentina to beat Nunes even before the Pena fight. I think that the 2nd fight between Nunes and Valentina should have been scored a draw as neither fighter did anything and they basically just stared at each other for five rounds. Val is a counter striker, but over the past couple of years, she's shown more willingness to lead than in the past. She's got a good fight IQ and I would think that she understands now that not pressuring and ultimately tiring out Nunes in the 2nd fight was a huge strategical error. If there is ever a 3rd fight, I think that Val is more aggressive and beats Nunes in dominant fashion.

Of course she would have: Nunes did nothing in that fight and gassed hard, throwing ridiculous, slow punches... it was embarassing, don't matter what the chill commentators were spewing...
