Or at least at the championship level. Before each of his loss, woodley talked on and on about how he is going to go forward and knock the guy out but once punch and he freezes and starts backing off. I don't know wtf happened in the Vincent fight that made him actually throw but aside from that, dude crumbles. What do you attribute this to? Lack of confidence in chin and cardio? Afraid to lose? General mental weakness?
I made a similar topic earlier but it got merged with the mega thread for Jake paul. I'm just super curious and want to hear opinions. You rarely see someone this mentality at the championship level.

At least Conor goes forward and fights. Not a fan anymore but even after a mauling from Khabib, Conor was trying to fight back in the next round. Meanwhile, Woodley folded after Usman put a bit of pressure on him.

Maybe he's too much self-conscious. When the stakes are high, the pressure becomes too much to handle.
I mean, he knew the Paul fight was going to get watched a lot.

Didn't Lewis say a few days ago that he preferred fighting in the apex for that reason ? Less people, etc. We could see the difference between the Lewis in Houston vs Gane and the Lewis in Apex last Saturday, regardless of the opposition.

Don't think a guy who won the UFC WW belt and defended it 3 times can be the "most mentally vulnerable fighter in history". That's absurd. He had a fantastic career with wins over Lawler, Koschek, Wonderboy, Condit, Maia, Gastelum, and Till.

He got old, and lost his explosiveness. Happens to everyone if they hang around long enough. Then entered a sport that he had zero experience in and lost to a bigger and more experienced boxer. Not a great look, but that doesn't take anything away from his UFC career.

I agree with you somewhat. In this earlier fights, Woodley, despite a lack of activity, still looked to land and set up his right hand. After the usman loss, dude didn't even try to do that except for one fight. I dunno. Maybe the losses got to him, like Francis admitted once.

The bigger his ego got, the worse he fought
The more money he got paid, the worse he fought
The more trash he talked, the worse he fought
The more he lost, the worst he fought.

He as fighting two people in the cage/ring, his opponent and himself
Hate to see the brotha go out like that, but I actually thought he would get KO'd in the 1st fight. That was the word going around Wild Card.

Nah he is actually quite level headed. I don't see other fighters laughing off their knockouts and paying fans 5k to do the best meme shoop of his loss.

T-wood is good in my book. That right there shows he's not as mentally Vulnerable as lots think. Quite the opposite actually. Don't forget this guy stepped in the cage against killers and warriors. He has been through a ton. He has failed and succeeded. Yet he is still making bank and laughing it off.

Only flaw i ever saw from him was is gas tank issues and age playing a factor. Sometimes he got a bit gun shy. Other then that the dudes head seems fine. He has accomplished what many mma athletes can only dream of.
