Boxing is to MMA for fighting, like
Race walking is to sprinting for foot races.

in a foot race, one places artificial restrictions on determining the best way to get to point A to point B, and pretends that many techniques don’t exist. The other allows much more techniques and fuller use of your body.

In fighting, one places artificial restrictions on determining the best way to beat opponent, and pretends that many techniques don’t exist. The other allows much more techniques and fuller use of your body.

Decide for yourselves which is the superior discipline in each area.

Ok, right. Ok let's try a thought experiment.

3 boxers + 4 MMA fighters = how many dead bodies??

There are so many analogies it’s not even funny.

I think the best one I’ve seen is comparing the 1500m runner to a decathlete. The miler beats any decathlete by several seconds in a one mile race. But, how does he do in the other 9 sports involved in the decathlon? He’d get fucking smoked is how he’d do.

One is a specialist in one particular thing. The other is more a jack of all trades. Yet, I know who I’d pick as the better overall athlete (based on this particular analogy), and it’s not even close.

Yeah, that's more like it...or comparing an elite distance runner/biker/swimmer to the world's top triathlete. The specialist always wins in his own sport, but that doesn't make either one "better." Race walking is a joke IMO, so that analogy is only used to insult one of the sports.

Boxing is a martial art, one of them. MMA is a mix of all martial arts. The same comparison you are doing for boxing can be done for every single other martial art, including the grappling arts.

That's a particularly retarded way to look at it.

Boxing is one form of combat sport.
MMA is another form of combat sport.

They have different rules and require different skills.

Boxing has a beautiful rich history and has contributed quite a significant amount to MMA.

It is sad that people feel the need to be insecure about these two sports and can't simply allow them to exist in Harmony. Both sports have a lot to offer and neither is required view nor is it required to love or hate one depending on your feelings for the other.

Boxing is the cure to insomnia when it comes to combat sports.

who cares that woodley got knocked out. same as if it happened in the first fight.

TS is right. Still boxing is way better than race walking.

Came in the thread to post exactly this.

No, that's not true at all seeing as MMA involves boxing. You don't necessarily HAVE to train boxing as sure you could do kickboxing, MT, or whatever instead for your striking, but you probably SHOULD be training boxing so that if nothing else you're prepared for it when it's thrown against you. On the other hand your analogy actually is completely different things. If you're running you don't need to practice walking as you're not walking in your sport.

People are just trying to pretend like MMA fighters don't have years/decades of boxing, simply to avoid the embarrassing fact that turns out many of these fighters are still apparently shit at it despite that. Let alone that they turn out to be shit at it after specifically training for a boxing match.

Then whats gun fighting?
gun fighting is to bow and arrows, what putting a bullet in a chamber and firing is to putting an arrow in a bow, extending that bow and releasing it is.
gonna go easy on this thread with the analogies, cause it's clearly not a strong point for the gang.
