With yan fighting Cody for the title it begs the question: have two guys coming off official defeats and losing efforts In their last fights ever fought each other for a title before? Has this happened in other combat sports?
Thank in advance.

I can't think of one off the top of my head. My only guess would maybe be a Pride title fight where the champion was coming off of a non-title fight loss? ill have to look into it but as far as MMA is concerned Im not sure it has happened before.

That’s a good start I will look into too. The heavier weights Fedor and Wand went on those lengthy runs but at Hollywood Dan weight or the bushido weight there might be a chance

Not sure if Wand/Yoshida was a title fight, I don't think it was ... but both of them were coming off of a loss iirc.

I thought Gomi Vs Aurelio might have been one, but Gomi did have a win between losing to him the first time so it's not.

I can't think of any off the top of my head. I do know that there were 2 back-to-back lightheavyweight fights in 2015 (DC vs Rumble, DC vs Gustafsson) where one of the fighters in each fight was coming off of a loss. I know that's not what you're askin for but I thought that was a really cool fact that's a bit relevant.

What's Hollywood Dan weight? Is that the Pride equivalent of Franklin Weight?

Both fights were tournament fights. No title on the line.

I mean its not much of a statistic when using context. Sandhagen's loss is highly disputable, and the less we say about aljamain's bufoonery, the better. It's his fault this statistic is happening.

Cody ain't fighting for the belt
fix ya damm thread title
