I’ve been wondering lately, what sports are enjoyed by what specific demographics in America? One of the main tells that has caused me to think MMA doesn’t get the respect it deserves is a public speech by an elite member of American society.

Meryl Streep’s Golden Globes speech (timestamped):

“So Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners, and if we kick them all out you’ll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts.”

Meryl was definitely talking from the position of the elite of American society, and responding to the then recent ushering in of president Donald Trump who was elected by the middle and working class of America.

The lower classes seem to enjoy heavier contact sports such as MMA and American football, meanwhile the upper classes seem to enjoy the more fluid sports of basketball, tennis, and all the country club sports. It is kind of a trope that the old school and Pride era MMA fans generally dislike where the sport is heading, so maybe this is an indication demographics are widening in who follows MMA.

Does MMA and the UFC not get the respect of other sports because it is seen as brute and something enjoyed by the lower classes?

It's owned by WME and it's fanbase tends to be whiter and more middle class and older than boxing. Just look at the demographics UFC ads tend to target. It's not high society but it's not really a working class sport or something.

It could be said that those upper echelon snobs dont like any sports at all. it would seem logical but would it be true. I think we like what we like. I know a lot of aggressive people in the upper class who LOVE football, went to football colleges, played college football etc, etc. A lot of people who support the "arts" actually own football teams. So despite blue collar types being the bread and butter of football and MMA, I think you will find MANY snobby socialites loving MMA and football. I would not take Streeps comment to literally.

MMA still needs an American mainstream crossover success. They tried with Rousey but she is sooo uncharismatic in real life.

I would say the elite of America reside in the northeastern blue states (New York, New Hampshire, Maryland, etc) and the west coast pacific major cities such as LA, San Francisco, and in Silicone Valley. Football is way more popular in the poorer states of America such as Texas and Alabama.

It was a study earlier this year, take it with a grain of salt, but it lines up with what things look like these days

Keep in mind that boxing currently has a more promising crop of stars to appeal to younger demos. Which isn't exactly a knock on mma, it's just the nature of starmaking, cyclical and unpredictable. I don't see any UFC equivalent or even shadow of a guy like Ryan Garcia.

And not to be mean to the UFC, but pretty sure Dude Wipe's target demo isn't 20 year olds. I do get where you rae coming from with boxing's old heads, but just given it's infusion of younger interest the past few years and more global reach, that's going to give you a younger fanbase.

As you go higher up the echelon the tesosterone rates get lower. I promise you some of the most well endowned men, muscular and men who are the bull in cuck relationships... by and large these men are "lower" or middle class

Look at how popular Interracial bbc porn is with upper class whites and hollywood fetishing the hood black man. Look at how Roger Stone Trumps rich white elite campaign advisor was busted for putting up an interracial cuckold add in the 1990s. Look at how rampant that is in Hollywood and how Paul Manafort (Trump aid convicted felon) also was into BBC parties with his wife

Roger Stone and Paul Manafort are not masculine or tough looking men

Look at Bill Gates there is a meme circulating that quotes him saying legit when he first met Melinda she was seeing other guys and he had his computers... He let her bang other men because his testosterone is low

The fact of the matter is a lot of wealthy and rich men are genetically flawed physically and they hire other more better men to please them and wives.

For example you have to be a sensitive man to prefer tennis and basketball over combat or contact sports .
