News AKA Edmen Shahbazyan Vs Nassourdine Imavov - UFC 268 - 6th November

Edgemen brah really needs a win here. Imanov is a tough out but this is a winnable fight. imo

This is a great matchup. These guys are going to stand and bang. He finally gets a step down to build himself back up a bit and doesn't have to worry about the wrestling. If he loses here though - not to hate on Imavov - he's pretty much never going to amount to those lofty heights other thought he was capable of. That's for sure.

Good match making here. Both have weak grappling so having them fight each other makes sense.

I favor Imaov here. He's been more active while Edmen's confidence may be shot from two back to back losses.

Honestly I feel like this is one of those fights that Dana does where he puts two guys he's undecided on backing against each other and the winner is the one the promotion decides to push and the loser is quietly discarded, even if not immediately cut, taken out of focus and perhaps given bad matchups later on to build future promising fighters. Both these guys have shown some promise, but both have also had some setbacks, so this fight is to decide who the promotion gets behind and who the promotion uses to build up other future studs.

This is a very good fight actually, Imavov looked great against Heinisch - finishing him is no mean feat.

Edmen all day. Imavov's good, but Edmen has the best striking in the division sans Adesanya and Whittaker.

He's training at AKA now, I imagine Edmen will still be in his corner, but seems he isn't going to be doing his camp at Glendale.
Good for him. He needs a good team around him - I don't think he's going to be champion, but he does have potential (which is wasted by the combination of bad coaching at Glendale and UFC's insistence on not giving fighters coming off crushing losses proper rebound fights).

That's the issue with the rankings system. Once you're ranked they basically can't give you a rebound fight against someone who's not that good because if they win then the guy that's not that good ends up in the rankings.

I agree. Rankings (or at least the ways UFC implements them) are problematic, and do a disservice to the fighters.
