Enlighten me, please.

Who would win in a wrestling match? And who do you think will be the better MMA wrestler when they square off in the cage?

I suppose the answer is Chandler as Justin pretty much never uses his wrestling so we can't tell.

The only thing we have seen recently on that front is Khabib taking him down and that's not a great measuring stick.

would lean chandler.

gaethje looked like a total noob on the ground with khabib. getting passed in a second.

unfortunately i don't think chandler will go this route since he probably wants a highlight reel KO

Justin's ground game is terrible, he is a BJJ white belt, see what Havib did to him.

Chandler.
He actually has been using his wrestling in his fights.
Geathje only using his wrestling ability, to avoid wrestling entirely.
Chandler is going to be sharper by virtue of actually using his skills in his fights. Plus Their NCAA records aren't particularly drastic in difference of accomplishment.

Chandler may have a slight edge, but don't sleep on Justin after what Khabib did to him.

Gaethje was predominantly a wrestler in his early MMA career.

records means nothing if you don't show any skills in MMA match. Every time that Justin been on the ground he tried to do everything to stand up, many times giving his back which is why he so easily lost to Khabib. if he wont improve his grappling it will be smart for Chandler to try to get to the ground.

Chandler. Justin is awful grappler, probably worse than tired Ngannou. He has ok TDD and nothing else, very stiff guy but breakable. He'd probably get taken down and choked out by washed up Darren Elkins or somebody.

I'm looking at records because at the beginning of their prospective careers they may have been comparable, but obviously they've trended differently in their styles since then.
Chandler has been using and sharpening those tools ever since while Gaethjes wrestling skillset has been collecting cobwebs on the shelf.

Straight up wrestling much with the Teletubby hat and Borat's swimsuit, I think Justin would take it - I think he's just more athletic and explosive, but in MMA where it goes beyond wrestling into all forms of grappling - I think Iron Mike Ballhandler is way better.

Justin's zhoo zhits seems extremely suspect at the moment.

In their peak in college I’d favor Chandler but not by much. 1 or 2 points. They were both 1 time AA placing (5th)Chandler and (7th) Gaethje.

Currently I’d favor Chandler by much more. He seems to have kept his wrestling skills polished while Justin let them get rusty.

chandler has a really good ground game amazing wrestling and amazing denfensive BJJ and his GnP is decent not everybody can survive and reverse having charles oliveira on your back with the body triangle
In 28 fights he's never lost by sub. I want to see him fight Islam in a 5 rounder. Maybe that fight can still happen later.

Right? I think most a lot of sherdogers now just know UFC. Chandler has shown great wrestling outside the UFC and Gaethje has shown weakness against not that great grapplers.

Gaethje lost interest in wrestling a long long time ago so probably Chandler.

Even when Gaethje wrestled, like he was never a super technical wrestler, he was more like instigating standing clinches, which are super rare in high level MMA and try to use that to brawl. Using a strong collar tie to hold your head so that he can hit you. He wrestles the same way he fights, he's not a technical beautiful wrestler, Justin Gaethje is at the heart of it, simply a tremendously violent man.
