First Islam using an uncharacteristic upright clinch for extended knee delivery 2 weeks ago. He was VERY effective with his knees to the body. Looked rather textbook muay thai.

Then Khabib's cousin Usman yesterday landed a perfect knee to the liver from the clinch that TKOed his apanyent.

Let's discuss this, because IMO this is a new development in the CA ( Caucasian Arsenal). Have they been flying in Thais or sending their guys to Thailand?

Al hamdulillah.

Those guys are exceptionally good in the clinch from their judo, Sambo and freestyle backgrounds, so their strikes in the clinch will also be good because of their control. It was mentioned in the broadcast that Usman’s first martial art was muay tai.

Training at AKA. They have kickboxing and muay thai skill sets being taught there. Khabib has been doing flying knees from the start of his UFC career.

Yeah khabib was seen doing flying shit in his fight when he was getting bored.
But this is something entirely different.
Just adding muay thai knees to their clinch flighting. Great addition since they are already strong in the clinch - more weapons. They can go for throws//takedowns/trips/knees in the clinch.

iirc, Usman and Umar started doing muay thai before they started sambo/wrestling, hence why they do have polished striking. Also, training at AKA definitely improves all of Eagle MMA's arsenal.

Yeah but Khabib's seem to just be to close the distance rather than to try to ko the guy.

Lol those dudes have been going to Thailand for a while. I met a Mairbek when I trained at tiger Muay Thai in 2013. Zubaira was there too but not as friendly. Zubaira was always in a squad of 10 other dudes who would mean mug everyone.

He's connected before but yes it's used more to close the distance. Either way it's a move he uses and probably learned from AKA unless he was working on jumping knees before going to AKA.
