Think this might be another one for Smith, he's in a weird position and seems like he's just mid-tierl doomed to be a gatekeeper for the rest of his life

I like Spann but I think he loses this. Smith should be extra motivated to win lol. You dont wanna get ur ass beat then have to go back to the desk lol

Yeah, he kinda is. I doubt he minds that role to be honest. Beside his short rise to the top, he has been pretty average (as in great fighter, but not top 5) his ehole career

Whatever Smith has left he has to string wins together to even be considered for another title and they possibly need to be devastating wins. If Anthony is happy being in the top 10 and just jamming fights while chattin' with KB and whoever in the studio more power to him.
Anthony has a moderate name. Spann beating him is a great resume builder and gets him much further toward the top.
The duality is is weird but is often the case with vet higher in the pecking order vs newcomer looking to take that.

I wonder what Smith does if he wins this. I think Ankalaev or Santos is the next logical step, if he wins that hes on his way to title contention again.

Spann is underrated. He's a good fighter. However, he's not going to KO Smith and he's not going to Submit him either. On top of that, this is a 5 round fight. That's what you need to focus on here. Smith has really adapted since Glover. He's also got a higher fight IQ than Spann. Smith wins by decision.
