Eddie was a good fighter but stop trying to make him sound as a world beater.
Eddie came to UFC lost to Cerrone and then got gifted a title shot after back to back Split decision wins (Meanwhile both Tony and Khabib with 8 fight W streak were ignored) . He then beat RDA who had a bad weight cut and had fainted before the fight.
Him becoming champ was nothing but luck & UFCs benevolence .Because he matched up well with Conor UFC pushed him as hard as they could. Khabib, Tony would've killed Eddie also.
The only good victories Connor has is over FW Aldo and short notice Mendes.
I agree, Conor was really lucky to match with Eddie in a title fight, Conor matches perfectly with Eddie, other than Eddie I don't see Conor winning against other ranked lightweights at the time.
Nobody outclassed prime Eddie like Conor did, Eddie had Dustin beat both times before he had a brain fart and did something illegal. Conor's win over Eddie was the most flawless performance in history, trying to downplay that win just shows lack of objectivity when it comes to Conor.
Eddie got KOed by a guy named Timofey in a non-UFC tournament right after leaving UFC, and Chandler also finished him in Bellator, Eddie has so many losses in his career, even when he came to UFC he already had 3 losses, and the first thing he did in UFC was losing to Cowboy Cerrone. I don't know what your talking about Eddie's prime...
Was Eddie a top 10 material in LW division? Perhaps.
Was Eddie a top 5 material in LW division? No way. As others said, him beating RDA was lucky and due to RDA having issues with weight cutting before the fight, plus Eddie's style is perfect for Conor to beat. Eddie is a defensive wrestler, who counter hits, Conor does zero wrestling, and he is a better counter puncher plus he had better reach than Eddie. If Conor fought RDA or Tony, let alone Khabib, he could never get that title. It's even arguable that if he fought Nate Diaz for the third time he could win or not.
Both Conor and Eddie were lucky to be in that UFC Lightweight title fights, they were top 10 fighters at best in LW division, they weren't even top 5 at the time. Conor was coming from a loss against no.7 ranked Nate Diaz in LW division, and it's even arguable that he even won against Nate Diaz in the rematch.
