After seeing Magny's last few performances and how lost Geoff looked on the feet tonight, it really makes you appreciate the skills of Ponzinibbio and wonder how far he could have went if he wasn't plagued with life threatening health issues that shelved him for 3 years.

He's been the only striker(IN THE PAST FEW YEARS) to effectively shut down Magny's game and give him more things to think about. He chopped at the legs constantly to stifle his movement, and when the time was right put his lights out going up top. Neal tonight wasn't cutting the cage off at all, and was constantly head hunting into a clinch tie up against the cage whereas Ponzi used that as an opportunity to go for his Legs which helped him tremendously when he went for the finish.

Ponzi showed a level of Fight IQ and understanding of Magny's defensive tendencies that if baffles me that a Striker like Neal didn't entertain going to the legs at all, it looks like he didn't even think about it, especially considering Magny hasn't shown that he's addressed that hole in his game.

He landed the leg kicks early and had Neil on 1 leg for 4 rounds trying to land the over hand he threw 46 more times.

Couldn't get behind Ponz. He would disappear for too long.

It was still more and smarter than what Neal was doing all fight, he's a one trick pony with a bad poker face that causes him to do this stupid shuffle and drop his hands in the Middle of the octagon doing fuck all. Santiago may have thrown that overhand "46 times" but he put on a better performance than Neal by a few country miles simply by mixing up his strikes and not head hunting.

The thing about Magny is that he has always been an IQ test. Can you leg kick? Can you wrestle? If you do those things well, then he's going to have enormous difficulties.

That might have been a defensive retort because he was trying to make a highlight reel punch lol. He could have put Neil away earlier. Magny is just too nice a guy to watch him suffer 3 extra rounds knowing that KO was gonna happen

He wasn't shelved for three years, what the fuck are you talking about?

He was a beast, but you can't be inactive in this sport.

If he stayed active after 2018 he would've gotten a title shot., just a lot of bad luck.

Still can't believe Geoff ddin't throw a single leg kick, that Weidman effect is real. In an alternate universe Weidman doesn't snap his leg and Geoff easily dismantles Magny in 2.

Ponzinibbio is a fun fighter, but he was never going to reach the top.

The Larkin/Magny fight showed his ceiling.

He last fought in 2018, when he returned it was damn near 3 years since he's been in the Octagon, and I said his Injuries and health issues shelved him which they did, not sure what's so confusing about that, he talked about it on MMA Junkie.

{<huh}

I actually can’t see why else he didn’t maybe a threat of a takedown? Yeah was pretty dumb of him

That version of Ponzi was top 5 material and i'd have him as a favorite against any striker at 170. Now, 3 years later, things changed. Ponzi looked horrible in his last fight.
