Should Izzy have bulked up?

Or would this have only made him slower but not more powerful?
Not excessively bulk up, but definitely increase his power and power endurance. You have to when fighting bigger/stronger fighters.

Definitely should have packed on another 10 pounds of muscle at least. Should take a scrub 205'er as a warm up before he gives it another shot.

There is only so much power you can add without bulking up, especially when you are already as technically sound as Izzy.
I think he should have packed on 10 pounds of weight, more for the grappling aspect than for the striking actually.
That+ improving his jits.

No. He never planned on staying at 205.

Bulking up would just slow him down and make it harder for him to return to 185.

He should stick to fighting fighters he 6-12 inches taller than.

Nothing is easier than punching down.

He should do when hes ready to commit to lhw, but he had no plan to, either way Jan fought such a boring game plan that the only thing the extra muscle might have done is rocked Jan harder in that exchange or may have helped him get up when being pinned

Doubt a little more mass would’ve helped him avoid a well timed TD. He should just stay at 185. This double champ shit was getting ridiculous anyway.

Wandy bulked up for Cro Cop and that didn't end so well.

Izzy was smart to stay light and use his usual gameplan.

A ground game, sadly, was not part of his gameplan.

Yes. There are weight classes for a reason. He weighed in light, and got soundly beaten.

GSP did it the right way. Methodical, disciplined and ultimately successful.

I don't think size was the problem, it was his rudimentary ground game that was the problem. Him repeatedly trying that bridge escape against a much larger opponent was an exercise in futility as well as a gigantic waste of energy. He really has 2 choices from here, improve his defensive wrestling drastically in order to avoid the ground completely or learn small man BJJ and only train with larger training partners. That bridge escape probably works on opponents smaller than you but against a seasoned, larger opponent it's just not going to get it done. Personally, I'd like to see CKB bring in John Danaher, Marcello Garcia or someone of that ilk to improve the whole camp's ground game.

Izzy should've waited for a Bisping to become champ at lhw.

Nah, he should learn how to grapple first.

Such an obvious weakness of his.
Still don't understand why Yoel didn't throw some more takedown attempts out there.

Because for all the physical gifts and skills that Yoel possesses, he still has some of the lowest fight IQ I've ever seen from a high level fighter.

Not saying he's dumb, but he's piss poor at adjusting mid fight and implementing effective strategies.
