*In the middleweights for now at least (the thread was before Light-heavyweight Jan fight)

This fight was resulted as a Split Decision win for Adesanya.

Two judges scored for Adesanya 29-28. While one judge scored it for Vettori 29-28.

I think it's clear that Adesanya won the second round against Vettori, and Vettori won the third round with his successful takedown and the control time.

However, the first round is super close, I count almost 11 strikes for Vettori and almost 11 strikes for Adesanya, Vettori mostly kicked Adesanya, while Adesanya used his jab more. But then Adesanya eye poked Vettori that could actually change your opinion related to the sportsmanship factor while scoring the fights if its really a close one. And I think Adesanya seemed to have a better control of the Octagon in the first round, so fighting area/octagon control can go to Adesanya as well.

I personally scored the first round 10-10, the second round 10-9 Adesanya, the third round 10-9 Vettori.

So it's 29-29 draw for me, but I won't say you are wrong if you say Adesanya won the first and thus it's 29-28 for Adesanya.

Kelvin did way more damage and that fight was dead even going into the last round. We all know what happened there and there's no question who won.

I think TS is talking about close as in harder to score.
Then its a stupid thread because the answer is obvious

I like Kelvin but he was gonna be finished if there was another round. He’s lucky the ref didn’t stop their fight.

I think so...

But Gastelum had him Adesanya in trouble and did more damage than Vettori did.

No Kelvin knocked him off balance once then got slaughtered the entire fight, knocked down multiple times, how can you act like that one punch in the first round is better than the beat down that Kelvin recieved in for 99.9% of the fight, its normal shit, Izzy plays cat and mouse, rewatch the fight lol.

Vetorri did well with his wrestling against a new to the top levels of MMA and young Izzy who is a striker, nowadays Izzy wrecks him.

Gastelum rocked him and had him in trouble mate. Rewatch the fight, Gastelum was landing all night long

Nope this fight being close is a Sherdog myth, Izzy clearly won it. You can maybe give Vettori one round for getting a takedown but he did nothing with it, no gnp or attempting to advance positions. The only judge to score the fight in his favour was Chris Lee who is notoriously known for bad decisions (scored Felder over RDA, Gastleum over Till) was the sole judge to cause a split decision in 8 fights that he judged in 2020.

The Mexican guy had Izzy hurt and then went for a take down... i think in the fourth.

So that knocked him down yeah? The fight was almost stopped? I mean watch your own gif, he just got clipped jumping in, it happens, it was hardly a fight changing moment.

I mean how many times did izzy drop him? 4 times? The fight should have been stopped for kelvins saftey it was a massacre.

This is high level martial arts, you dont go through a career without getting clipped ffs
