Blast from the past - fighters and haters picking Mendes over Conor

Wow, Colby was around that time? Say what you will, been watching since 2010, I only found out about Colby after his heel turn before the Maia fight. Guess he did something right.

Damn good video. I’d forgotten about the build up to that fight. Makes Mendez raking the eyes look even worse.

Didn’t he fail a drug test and retire soon after too?

it is perfectly safe to assume full camp mendes would have destroyed connie.

Wasn’t Conor training for a completely different style fighter?

Seems like when this fight was offered to Conor his reply was “they’re all the same” or something similar.

I have bet on McGregor fights 4 times, Aldo, Mendes, Diaz 1 and Diaz 2

The only one I bet that he would win was Diaz 1

<31>

Just gonna sit back and just enjoy his fight this weekend.
I didn’t bet on any of those, so my pain isn’t as real as yours I’m sure, but at that time, I strongly disliked Conor and Diaz 1 was also the only of those fights I picked him to win. I remember watching them all with my friends who are casuals and being like “Just you wait and see!” And I was wrong every single time hahaha. Good times though to be honest, say what you want about the guy but he always puts on entertaining fights.

yep, training for aldo iirc?

but still training the whole time, mendes was literally drinking beers and hunting and eating beef jerky for weeks before he got the call to face conor, whilst conor was in camp the whole time.

Yeah, he was training for Aldo. I think Mendez got the call on less than two weeks notice if I remember correctly. I thought Chad was gonna wrestlefuck Conor to an easy UD. This was the performance that finally made me acknowledge that McGregor is a legitimately good fighter. I thought it was all just hype before that.

Absolutely embarrassing . Good for Dustin to realise his bum bitterness.

Imagine being 5'2 and hating on Conor. Damn midgets.
Midgets are minute in physical stature but they are giants when it comes to envy and bitterness.

It was the first time he was booked against Aldo I believe. They did a world tour and Aldo pulled out. Mcgregor took the fight injured and Chad came in off a hunting trip.
Pre fight Chad was talking about how fit he was and that he always trains, post fight it was that he came off the couch.

Good performance by Mcgregor. I think he would have had a great run if he stayed at 145 for an extended period.

Very honest and charismatic reaction from DP

It was a bit of a 50-50 fight all things considered.

Conor had a full camp but was preparing for a striker. IIRC, He also had not fought a notable grappler to the caliber of Mendes. He's a fast finisher

Mendes was on 2 weeks short notice so he probably didn't have 5 round cardio nor was he in optimal shape. So he had to get the job done quick.

In the end, it was a relatively short fight (2 out of 5 rounds).

He's admitted already he went full heel because nobody knew who he was.
