Not saying I agree or disagree with it, but despite undefeated record and recency bias I think it’s very clear that GSP it’s still wy ahead in the perception of the majority of MMA fans.

Maybe it’s because he ruled for such a long time, and maybe it’s because of the timing, his name and his looks and charisma and marketability, but whatever the reason and despite numbers and dominance, and the Conor fight, I think GSP is still miles ahead especially in the casuals perception.

Basically I think Khabib needs that fight for legacy much more than GSP needs it.

Khabib surpassed GSP a while ago, him coming back for another only further cements that.
Only according to some GSP haters and Khabib fanatics, but what do you think the perception is for the majority of the population?

Give it some time mate. When he beats GSP and then comes back for another one against a new "Khabib killer" you won't think the same.

Khabib didn't have a lot of luck in his career, he had many very biginjuries, had the title shot very late ( 9 fights in the ufc ), many big names refused to fight him ( nate diaz, alvarez, pettis ), got a lot of easy fight cancelled ( max, ferguson, cerrone ) and his coach/father died while khabib was in his prime.

Khabib's career aint GOAT worthy on paper, but the argument that he might be the best fighter we've seen to this day is not crazy at all.

Maybe, but I’m talking about perception.

lol the GOAT debate is all about perception, it is just subjective, for some the GOAT is the best resume, others is the best fighter, others the most entertaining, the best record etc

Muhamad ali is considered the GOAT in boxing for the majority of the boxing fans, while resume wise, he doesn't have the best one. GOAT discussion is all about perception mate.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda. If we're gonna play that game then what if Shogun didn't break his knees 5 times, get robbed against Machida, and run into a young Jon Jones who was probably on the 'roids already?

You’re pretty much repeating exactly what I said though, I’m saying the perception of the majority is that GSP is well above Khabib in the GOAT debate, and that Khabib needs to beat him in order to change that perception. That was pretty much the whole point of the initial thread.

I legit wrote on my post that his resume is not GOAT worthy in my opinion ...

those are event khabib had 0 control over, u cant deny the fact that if khabib would ve faced holloway/ferguson/alvarez like he was scheduled too, his depth of resume would ve been even better ( of course he would ve smashed them all ... ). We're not talking about decision loss, or lost to other fighters here ...
