Poirier has been fighting who's who in lightweight division to work his way up to the title shot.

Meanwhile, Conor has been punching old man, selling his whiskey or whatever the hell that thing is, and getting accused of sexual assaults while fighting literally while having fought TWICE in last FOUR YEARS, and only once in last two years against the world beater in Cowboy at Welterweight.

I don't think Poirier has a snowball's chance in hell against Conor. I think Poirier may have a chance if Conor's so washed up that he's like at 30 percent of what he used to be, and he may still lose.

Life isn't fair, and I think this fight will be another sad case of how work ethic cannot beat supreme talent.

Poirier is pretty good though. But a hot knife through a butter type match up. No matter how rusty that knife may be, it's just a butter in its way.

Conor works hard and they have different talents, but both are talented.

Conor trains consistently and doesn't let himself get fat (I think Dustin does somewhat). However, he does drink and do drugs, but it seems like these days weight isn't much of an issue.

Conor is a more explosive/power and less endurance type fighter. Dustin is less explosive than Conor but has more endurance. So it evens out somewhat. Conors the better striker, Dustin is the better grappler.

The reason why Dustin will likely lose is because he will choose to strike against the better striker (the best in the division). Conor has better power, timing, precision, and technique than Dustin when it comes to striking. If Dustin goes about it with a mixed style, he stands a better chance. If they fight their best fight instead of Dustin playing to Conor's strength, than it can be a close fight.

You don’t think Conor works hard?
I don't think that's the take away.

he's saying even if Dustin did twice as much work, Conor would still blast him. I'm inclined to agree with him.

Same for Khabib and his generation. Khabib can work less and they can work twice as hard, win twice as many fights and still lose to khabib.

There are levels to this.

This goes on in every area of life not just sports. Even in school, some students learn much faster. Later some co workers you will never catch up to. Nothing unfair about it.

Nah if you got average iq, you can best someone intellectually. But for sports, there are limits due to physical attributes. The analogy there isn't really apples to apples.

You could make the argument both ways

Conor has stayed fresh while Dustin has been taking a lot of damage

This fight is going to be a lot closer than the first. Dustin got hit behind the ear in the first fight, and since then he's improved his boxing defense and offense. He still gets hit a lot, but I expect him to trade more with Conor. Connors defense fades as the fight goes on because his cardio is poor.

If Conor doesn't gas he should win this fight, but Dustin can KO him in the later rounds.

I'm looking forward to seeing how much Conors boxing has improved since the Floyd fight.

Since we didn't really get to see it in his last two MMA fights.

No, I think you’re giving TS the benefit of the doubt. He dismisses Conor as just fucking off and selling whiskey while not caring about fighting.

True. it is sherdog after all.

I think its crazy to think conor wouldn't be in the gym.

Conor should be favored BUT

- First fight was at 145lbs years ago. Dustin looked a lot better at 155 vs 145
- Dustin has improved a lot since then. Maybe not enough to beat Conor but he's still a better fighter than he was back then. More complete , experienced and refined
- Conor hasn't been involved in anything meaningful since Khabib. Yes Cowboy but honestly....Cerrone is a shadow of his former self and that fight did not really told us where Conor is at right now

So yes Conor should be the favorite but i don't think it's as clear cut as many seem to think

Yup, like Khabib Conor was supreme domination > talent and good striking

To those defending Conor’s work ethic, you’re not wrong that he has worked very hard. But, that was in the past. Having fought so infrequently, the motivation to train hard has not been there in the last few years. It’s extremely rare for fighters to train as hard when they don’t have a fight coming up as they do when they do have a fight coming up. So naturally, his development has probably slowed down.
