I see a lot of people here who are very confident Weili would smash Rose, but that's not even close to a safe bet. I'm not going to lie, I don't necessarily favor Rose. Put a gun to my head, and I'd say Weili. But it's close. Real close.

People who say she'd get squashed are going off of what, exactly? The fight with Joanna? Weili thrashing Jessica in less than a minute?

Rose beat Joanna twice, both times more convincingly than Weili did. Jessica fought dumb against someone who could match her power with more precision, and paid dearly for it. These things do not mean Rose would so easily lose to Weili. Rose isn't reckless like Jessica was, she's not gonna get knocked out in under a minute.

When that fight comes, I don't know who wins, but it will be a war. Not a one-sided beatdown. This is likely Weili's toughest fight yet. I'd say Weili by late TKO, or Rose by decision.

If the UFC decides to give the fight to Carla, well, that's another story. Weili would absolutely kill Carla. It's a mismatch. Carla's had no victories over the top contenders in that division, and the victories she has had were unconvincing at best. She could just as easily be on a three fight losing streak.

Of all the contenders in 115, Rose has the best chance to beat Weili. Joanna's capable of it too, but I'm uncertain if we ever see a rematch. Not counting Suarez cause she's out and may never return.

I really like Weli and am not a big fan of Rose. I haven't thought about this fight more than that really.

I can't see any easy rebuttals to your opinion though. I think it will be a pretty good fight.

I think Rose is going to need to use some slick footwork to engage in striking range. Trading in the pocket is probably not going to be the best idea. I'm excited to see this one for sure. I really like both of them, so it's going to be hard to see either lose. Let's hope for another classic.

They're both gonna get beat up. You see Joanna's face after their second fight? Its not gonna be pretty either way.
There's a reason why the UFC has been trying to make this fight with Rose and Weili for over a year. Rose flat out said in March she didn't want to fight Weili and passed her by to fight someone else.

Rose must be trying to read stars at night to figure out when is exactly the right time for her to sign the contract because she's been offered the fight and turned it down a couple times.

I'm definitely a Rose fan, but I'm a Weili fan too. Push comes to shove, I root for Weili. I don't dislike anyone in the straw weight division tho. I haven't been able to root for Joanna in a long time cause I've liked all her opponents more, other than Wateeson, but I like her too.

How does she win? She’s not taking weli down she’s vastly outgunned on the feet and she gassed in her last fight whilst weli went 25 at a fast pace. Oh and her mentality is questionable at best, Zhang by stoppage is easy money,
That mentality line has never made sense. Rose always brings it hard.

She's outgunned in terms of power, sure, but not in terms of speed or precision.

The reasons I dislike Rose and mostly unfair, unrelatable, having nothing to do with her performances, and probably wrong.

But I'll attempt to explain and embarrass myself...

Rose is/was one of the most bubbly, happiest, smile inducing fighters on the roster.

Maybe it's over-the-top and exaggerated, but so is this stuff

I sense a shyness, a nervousness, uncertainly, that has made Rose a dishonest character and an actor.
Which I think is generally find for a human being to get by, but in my wishful vision of martial arts, you cannot reach your peak until your over come these types of things. Their art is an extension of character, and I'm personally unsure, Rose has settled into her pure character. So her success destroys my vision of the ideal martial artist.

In hindsight, I think Joanna sensed something real, despite losing, when she said something like Rose wouldn't be able to handle being a champion.
Rose isn't dishonest, she's just odd and awkward. She has her good social days and her bad. Rose is and has always been herself. I don't see her as an actor nearly as much as Joanna is.

I think that's an interesting point. I don't think you're wrong, and I hate attempting psychology and philosophy on people and things I've never met or done...
but I would say Joanna's desire and motivation "to act" is revealing in some ways.

Rose has been an itch I haven't been able to scratch personally, and wanted to put my thoughts out there.

I relate a lot to Rose because I'm the same way. Some days I'm more energetic, but other times I'm just totally shut down and I look like Rose in that picture with Holly.

It should be a fantastic fight assuming it gets made instead of Carla vs Weili. That would be a smackdown. I couldn't imagine the odds on that fight. Weili should be at least -400

Joanna said she passed on Weili, I don't remember Rose saying the same. I'd have to see a reference on that. Either way, passing on the fight doesn't necessarily mean she's afraid to face her. Rose fought Jessica twice, after being brutally knocked out the first time. I seriously doubt she's scared of Zhang.

I agree it's a very interesting matchup. The first couple of rounds are gonna be very close, Rose might actually take them. But she has a problem with keeping up the pace when she gets pressured which we saw in both Andrade fights. Weili on the other hand does not slow down and is probably the hardest hitter at SW. If it goes past the 2nd round Rose is gonna get eaten alive.

Zhang is a beast, she comes forward and swings with power. If rose is going to win she is going to need to use her height and great footwork to jab and move to take rounds because zhang will keep on coming and will make it scrappy if needed and if Jessica can tag up rose like she did in round 3 Zhang will give rose all she can handle. Zhang is on a tear and rose has had taken damage recently so I see why rose is the underdog but she is one of the best boxers in wmma with solid subs so she is definitely a live dog here.

Roses boxing is like the preset combinations on knockout kings in like 2000. For ps1. You have the 4 combos there is no timing. And it lands If it lands.
nonstop feinting and head movement from like 6 feet away throwing the jab out. And going into the preset combos. Wmma is the damndest thing.

The challenge for Rose in this fight is she's facing a fast starter and a fighter who also has very good cardio and is very tough down the stretch. She's also a strong pressure fighter which has been a weakness of Rose.

If we look at Rose's toughest fights and losses it's all from fighters that have those qualities. Katarina broke her down as the fight went on. Esparaza came back and subbed her in the third. Andrade bullied her way and took over the fight and won by slam KO, then in the rematch Andrade started to mount a come back in round 2 and it was a split decision.

So Zhang is gonna be tough early an that's when Rose is usually at her best. And Zhang is gonna put the pressure on round by round. Unless Rose can get her out of there in 2 rounds, Zhang will wear her down with pressure and win by TKO.
