apparently he was the one who help came up with the unified mma rules which sucks...no knee/kick to ground opponent, no 12-6 elbow but 1-7 is ok... plus he thinks too highly of himself like his opinions matters...i wish mario yamasaki wrote the rules

You're missing a ton of context here. A huge part of the reason for many of the rules like no knees or kicks to a grounded opponent, or no 12-6 elbows is because at the time, it was extremely difficult to host and regulate MMA events. In many places it was illegal, and even referred to as human cock fighting. Many of those rules were put in place by necessity and helped MMA gain acceptance by a mainstream audience. In other words; hitting downed opponents, soccer kicks, and 12-6 elbows were considered too barbaric and brutal. Certain strikes and rules needed to be modified and implemented for marketability and regulation. You should be kissing his feet. Although I don't agree with many of the rules, and agree that there should be some changes, these rules are in large part responsible for the amazing and entertaining sport we have today.

His commentary isn't great, I like him as a podcaster though. Very knowledgeable about mma history, fighters in general and has a thousand stories and anecdotes. For some reason it doesn't really translate to his commentary.

right because head kicks is not barbaric...dont forget them elbows dont want the kids to see too much blood. lets ban all submission i cant bear to watch someones arm get snapped

Great reff but I'd be annoyed if I was a reff, having to hear him be questioned on an mma talk show about whatever controversial stoppage had occurred.

As if he is the reff of all reffs.

Correct. This was the attitude of most people, and the mainstream public in the early 90's and caused big problems for getting MMA regulated, and hosting events.

He wasn’t the guy who came up with no knees to the head on the ground. That was Gan McGee who was a 7 foot heavyweight, who faced a smaller 205 guy who decided to fight at HW and was cornered in a cage and had knees to the head reigned down on his head. The commissioners didn’t like it and said those gotta go. Big John is one of the best referees in mma of all time, I don’t remember the last time he made a bad call.

He thinks Dana White is responsible for all that

You have it wrong.

the commissions wanted to put even more restriction in the unified rules.

The rules you listed were compromisers.

they wanted to ban far more techniques including judo throws and some slams.

If it wasn’t for John and some others the rules that you are complaining about would have been even more restrictive.
