Why are people not bringing up the ring rust factor in MCG-Poirier 2?

It seems like people are kinda glossing over the fact that Conor hasn’t had a high level fight since 2018 when he lost to Khabib, now he did Kill Cowboy in January but let’s be real (not trying to fighter bash) that version of Cowboy is passed his prime and suffered two violent TKO L’s in a row. Again I’m not trying to diminish his victory or anything but it didn’t really do much to alleviate concerns people have about his cardio or anything like that and we know that DP is ready for this fight because he went to war with Hooker/Khabib/Max back to back.

But then again Conor did stiffen the guy in one round before so <36>. Maybe I’m overthinking?

Ring rust could definitely be a factor. I suppose people aren’t talking about it much as it’s just one of those wait and see things. Isn’t much to discuss at this point. The excitement levels for this fight aren’t as high as usual either imo.

Because he didn't seem to have ring rust against Cerrone and also knocked Poirier out relatively easy the first time.
How long ago was the first Conor vs Dustin fight? Which weight class was it at? How many fights has Conor had since then? How many has Dustin had since then?

You don't think maybe things have changed?

Poirier isn't marketable at all. Conor is. So the best outcome of the fight is Conor winning. Does it mean Conor is getting an easy fight? No, not at all.

The guy with KO wins in three different weight classes who recently put on the greatest ufc beat down ever on its winningest fighter ever is rusty?

yes... it’s quite possible. We don’t know how Conor’s Cardio will hold up especially since it’s been a while since his last competitive fight and it’s not the best in general. Dustin Poirier on the other hand has been in DOG fights and seemingly improving each fight.

Ring rust doesn't seem to be an issue of his in any of his fights from his time off, and more so not training enough or changing his style up. I know a lot of people give him shit over his movement coach, but that was actually the best version of Conor stylistically, - he's slower, and flat footed now. He lost in the Diaz fight because of cardio, he was winning before that. He's easier to hit now than before because he lost all his footwork and in and out movements. His movement is stiff now.

They'll bring it up after the fight.

The bigger question is, why does everyone just ignore that Cerrone literally didn't throw a single punch then admitted after the fight he quit and wanted to get out of there?

Does no one find it odd that Conor rushed Cerrone during the opening seconds to throw the predictable left hand with his chin flying in the air? We all know Cerrone struggles against pressure fighters, but that was just stupid.

Conor's mental state and new fighting style are what I want to see, because there are a ton of questions. The last time Conor fought an elite fighter was 3 years ago, where Khabib was pummeling him for long stretches in the standup. If Conor has another one of these fights where he gasses out, Poirier is gonna batter him.

People are underestimating how proper preparation can change a fight. When Dustin fought him the first time Conor had a completely different style and Dustin virtually had no real path to victory because Conor showed little to no weaknesses in his UFC career.

Now everyone and their mom knows Conor doesn't have elite endurance, Dustin knows if the fight even gets to the 2nd round his odds of victory rise significantly, all the pressure is on Conor to just buzzsaw through a top 20 PFP fighter in 5 minutes. Circle away from Conor's left high kick and left hand, be ready for Conor's stabing front kicks to the body from his left leg. Be patient and force Conor to commit, clinch and make it ugly if the opportunity is there. Get the first 5-8 minutes out of the way, and it's smooth sailing from there.

Because Conor, like Floyd, is the type to train a lot, even behind the scene. We also didn't see any ring rust earlier this year against Cerrone. It also helps that Conor is pretty much in his physical prime. You can tell he is still hungry as based on his text to Dana he wanted to fight more this year.

I think Conor will win, but if Conor loses to Dustin then it simply means Dustin was the better man on that night. It's a fight, losing is a possiblity. If Dustin wins, they will have a third fight to end the rivalry. Dustin will be all for it and Conor doesn't like to be on the losing end.

Come on connors been the more active fighter. He fought the IRS, bar patrons, the law on multiple occasions, Johnny Walker (via proper 12), and a whole army of Khabib fans on Twitter
