If Dustin beats Conor, it says more about Conor being washed than it does about Dustin being better

I'm a Dustin fan. Not hating on him but I just don't see a way he can win this fight. If Dustin wins, I don't necessarily believe he's a better fighter than Conor. I imagine that's going to be the general/consensus takeaway if Conor doesn't win and doesn't win in dramatc and dominant fashion is that's not the same Conor.

I also think Dustin struggling with hooker when he didn't need to and going on to beat Conor would make Conor look even worse. If hooker was able to hang with Dustin but Conor couldn't with Dustin in the rematch. Oof.

I don't think that's likely though. I think Conor wins again.

They are both good fighters and I also have Conor winning. I believe Dustin will want to strike against Conor, and that means stepping into Conors world. It's like trying to grapple with Khabib.

Dustin is a great fighter who has good striking and grappling. However the divisions specialists (Khabib the grappler and Conor the striker) will always be favored over him. Especially because they also have good defense for what ppl perceive as their weakness (Conor has good grappling defense and is willing to cheat, and Khabib has good striking defense). Dustin cannot stop Khabib from taking him down and mauling him, and he likely can't outstrike Conor (though its not impossible).

Though i believe Conor will win, I find myself rooting for Dustin as I feel bad for him. It's almost an Alexander Gustafson type scenario, where Dustin would have been champ in a different era. He's beaten many former champs and top fighters, but just falls against the very elite.

Its a fight nothings certain..

A win is a win...you could say this for anyone who beats conor ever...its a disservice to his opponents to push this narrative... If conor loses its because his opponent was better on that night...and vice versa...

Rematches in combat sports usually favors the athlete who lost the first fight...

to be fair who knows what's going to happen.

I think the layoff will affect Mcg up to a certain level, but it's more of his tendency to not train hard enough to build the cardio for fights. he always trains light and add his style that consumes a lot of stamina... We'll see what happens.

I think Hooker is being underrated, the guys is one tough sob, maybe too tough for his own good. He generally does good in the first 2 rounds but fades. Still he doesn't give up and takes beating after beating.

Is this the classic sherdog logic of certain fighter lost= he sucks ?
Nah it's even more stupid than that. He's saying if Conor doesn't dominate poirier in their rematch then that mean he's not the same Conor. There's simply zero logic behind that argument.

Using that logic, every fighters who's a betting favorite should win their fight. If they don't then they're washed.

I think you're right. I'm a huge Poirier fan but he just isn't elite. Guy who gets everything that he can out of his ability but just not qite at the absolute top. Sits on top of the second tier in my opinion.
