Has any fighter had a worse year in history than Tony Ferguson?

I'm really struggling to think of someone who's stock started so high to start a year, and crashed so hard by the end of it.

Rousey at least had the benefit of her two losses being in separate years.
Fedor had a bad 2011, but his undefeated mystique had already been lost in 2010
Barao's downfall has been very sad, but it didn't all happen in a single year.
BJ Penn had a horrible 2010 on paper, but most thought he got robbed in the first Edgar fight.
Tyron Woodley has had a terrible 2020 campaign, but the blow was softened by his domination by Usman in 2019.
Askren is the butt of a lot of jokes on here, but I don't put too much stock into a 4 second KO and a competitive fight with Maia.

Askren for sure

Getting slept in 5 seconds and ruining your undefeated record (edited) and also getting choked by Maia one with arm is beyond humiliating. Askren also retired after that

Tony lost to top level competition, is normal

Askren had lost several rounds before the Masvidal fight

Did he? I followed his career closely before the UFC and I can’t recall him losing rounds, could have to double check. He was fighting cans anyway

Edit: after checking seems to have lost rounds to Jay Heiron, all other decision wins are lopsided

You really think Tony has had more shitluck than the ex-UFC guys who end up in Bare Knuckle boxing just to pay their bills? Anyone who fought in one of those orgs has had a worse year than Tony. Johnny Hendricks comes to mind. Poor bastard got whooped by a gay pornstar.

TJ Dillashaw in 2019 has to be high up on the list.

Gets finished in less than a minute by a "small man that I will crush" and then immediately gets exposed as a PED cheat 2 months later.

3 months into the year he's a PED cheat, has a 2 year suspension, and got finished by a guy a weight class below him in under a minute. Brutal

Did you watch his fights with Hieron or Aleksakhin? I'd also say he lost rd5 against Lyman Good.

edit: Somehow a judge gave Lyman Good two rounds against Askren. wtf.

TJ had it coming, he's a cheater

his epo use was what brought him the belt, without it he wouldn't even hold the belt. epo is literally the best ped for mma

and his suspension is rightfully so

I used to be a big fan of him btw

That's probably number 1. He didn't just lose embarrassingly,he didnt just cheat. He reaped every stupid shitty thing he sowed in one fell swoop.

Others guys may have had shitty yrs but they still had their respect

Agreed.

Tony 4 years past his prime losing standup to Justin and losing grappling to Oliveria is hardly an awful luck year, it's simply he's no longer good enough.

Hendricks had a pretty terrible 2016, going from a very close title fight with Lawler to losing to eternal gatekeeper Magny

Even with his body betraying him he's still making a decent check compared to anyone ranked below him. The guy has had a great career.

The only thing keeping 2020 from being a worse year is DW not cutting ferguson before the end of year. the videos last week alarming..."I broke Oliveira..."

Ferguson has some mental problems. Combine that with his physical decline and he needs to wrap things up in the UFC and go coach in Van Nuys or Riverside or wherever TF he lives. Just sad and pathetic now.
