the first fight was extremely close, we now know standup they are pretty much equal
they already measured each other on the feet
the second fight has to go to the ground, I think Colby has better wrestling skills but Usman is a more dominant grappler simply because he is just too strong and physical

Of course there are many more winnable options for Colby in WW, Masvidal is ducking him, maybe he can fight Burns, Wonderboy or Edwards, I don't think Colby can beat Chimaev

No because this time Usman will use wrestling. Last time he didn't cause of ego. But that's gone after beating him.

So you wonder is Colby can beat Usman, yet you think Khamzat beats Colby? I think Usman is a little better and will win on points again imo. Maybe a nice title eliminator if Burns beats Usman

I know the first fight was close, but personally I don't really see Colby ever beating Usman. They're basically the exact same fighter (elite grappling, mediocre striking, unlimited cardio), but Usman is just much bigger and stronger. Size/strength/athleticism matters when everything else is equal, so I really think Usman wins every time. I think Colby can beat everyone else in the division though.

Well he did pretty fucking good without the wrestling. Wasn't it dead even going into the fifth round?

I'd say Colby has the best chance out of any 170er right now. About 60/40 Usman.

I’m just waiting to see how long it takes him to drop the maga schtick

Colby looked like a killer after he assaulted Woodley, I expect the rematch to be competitive again

Usman would use his wrestling to take Covington down and keep him there...

Usman made their fight a lot harder for himself by coming in with a striking fight plan...

I meant usman didn't use his wrestling cause he felt he had something to prove. Now he'll beat tf out of Colby on the feet and on the ground.

Khamzat will be the Khabib of the 170, mark my word. He's future GOAT

I don't think Colby ever beats Usman. I believe that was his absolute best performance possible & it was purely striking. If they both wrestled, Usman would control the fight way easier.

RDA was able to take & hold Colby down, so Usman definitely can. I don't think there's much Colby can do other than try to start building KO power.

It's a little too early to be looking past Burns. Also a little too early to say Chimaev beats the #1 contender. We'll have the answers pretty soon.

I agree, though Colby came pretty darn close last time. The fight was very close until the jawbreaker punch that happened very late in the fight. For Colby to win, two things need to happen:
  1. Colby needs to have a great night. He should to do what he did last time + have better striking defense. However, super high output striking + solid striking defense are very hard to pull off a the same time.
  2. Usman would need to have a bad night, maybe a really tough weight cut or something else that keeps him from being 100%.
It's not impossible but it's unlikely that both of these things happen. And if Usman actually wrestles next time and has some success, that brings another issue. Their wrestling skills are very comparable which means the bigger, stronger guy will most certainly come out on top. That's been true since the earliest days of the sport (Coleman vs. Frye, etc.).

I think Colby can win if he uses his wrestling, interesting that people say that Usman will have an easier fight using wrestling, but I actually don't think that's the case. I think their wrestling matches up as evenly as the striking, but I give the Colby the notch because he has the better cardio. Usman had a hard time with Masvidal, and Colby really used to manhandle Jorge, it was a while ago but it still gives some kind of indication.
As for Chimaev, he's about to have his first real fight, lets see if he can get past Scott, because I don't think that's a given at all.

If Usman thought grappling Colby would be easy he wouldn't have fought an entire stand-up fight. Spare me the bs Usman wanted to be in a war that was tied going into the 5th.

If he was a LW, I may agree. But MW has a few top wrestlers, I find it hard to see how good he would do. Colby v Khamzat, I would favor Colby (relentless cardio, great wrestling, decent striking) . I am not saying its bullshit, but I am always very carefull with those statements.

Never said he wanted a war, but we clearly saw who the better striker was. Usman had the more effective shots, the better defense, better durability, and the better gas tank.

So does he really need to wrestle Colby? Probably not. He can just knock him out again or get a UD with striking only. If it came to wrestling though he'd get the better of Colby.
