Can’t seem to find any back story to this guy.
Somehow debuts in the UFC losing within a minute to Mickey Gall, then beats CM Punk in embarrassing fashion, Dana White slates him, calling him a fucking idiot.

Yet he is back in action versus Dean Barry (3-1) on Fight Island in a months time.

What is the deal here? Just seems like preposterous match making, is there more to Mike Jackson than meets the eye?

it's a good question!

I think he deserves another fight or two.
He's probably inexpensive to pay, and he's probably said "I'll accept ANYONE you match me with" and in these difficult times....that's the kind of attitude that UFC like. Witness Kevin Holland's rise.

So this guy Mike Jackson probably cheap and willing to fight anyone on short notice, that will keep him around for a bit I expect.

Rumble Yoel and Pettis were not re-signed because the UFC needed the cap space to sign coveted free agent Mike Jackson. That’s how sports work, bro. Do you even UFC, bro?
These people don't even ufc like that bro, they ain't know how the ufc be moving like that

So he is not any kind of celebrity or a former pro athlete in a different sport or anything like that? His face fits so he is in, simple as that, nothing more? Just seems odd considering how many better fighters are overlooked..

How good a fighter is is certainly relevant, but there are other factors. Cost and availability are two of them.

he was supposed to lose to Punk, played White & Punk, got shelved for a long time, and now he's back
