I had Khabib Ferguson of course but since it was cursed and never happened, i'll go for less bigger fights :

- Conor - Khabib in the sense that the build up, the match up, the skills of these two and the hype were insane

- Frankie Edgar - Gray Maynard for the great trilogy fights it brought us. Two monsters at that time and possibly some of the greatest moments in the UFC

- Dos Anjos - Khabib just because both guys are maybe the best LW to have performed and because at that time we did not know we were witnessing greatness in the making. Dos Anjos was beating everyone and Khabib dominated him..

I could have included Poirier, BJ, Nate, Cerrone, Pettis, Bendo (naaah his fights are boring), Eddie Alvarez.. So yeah maybe i'm forgetting great fights for sure

Khabib vs Conor: Khabib becoming a GOAT candidate and known to the masses

Penn vs Sherk: Penn’s era begun

Pulver vs Penn 1: Put LW on the American map

Yeah I was thinking of BJ but more in WW against GSP or Hughes. One of the best LW for sure

Pulver vs Penn seriously? Pulver was a 7:1 favorite against Joe Louzon and had just lost to him

I wanna add Gaethje vs Tony in there just because it was such a great fight to watch, but legacy wise it's not close

Conor vs khabib

pettis vs bendo 2

penn vs sherk

Sanchez vs guida

Edgar vs Maynard 2/3

lots of epic battles. Conor vs khabib is the biggest one ever in fame obviously

I think Pettis vs. Melendez was a big fight in terms of its influence on the division. Pettis came off a year and a half layoff, so there were a lot of questions about what he would look like. Giblert was only 1-1 in the UFC at the time, but many felt he should've won against Bendo, and he beat Diego in an all-time great war. There was so much excitement about the fight that the UFC chose both guys to be coaches on the first straw-weight season of TUF.

Pettis would submit Giblert without too much trouble in the 2nd, and that would become the high-water mark for both guys' careers. Pettis got ran over by RDA in his 2nd defense as champ, and never looked the same, again. Giblert more or less stopped improving between fights, and he progressively started look worse and worse, never once winning a fight after that. Both guys were top 5 lightweights in the world for a long time, so it just goes to show how quickly things can change in that division.

If GSP could have made 155 and fought Khabib it would have been #1

People always throw out the "biggest fight" question without defining what "biggest" means. Most hyped? Most important? Highest level of skill? These kinds of threads tend to get vastly different answers because people interpret the question differently. Clarification helps, TS.

It's a mix of all the things you said. A big hype (which often means the fighters are popular, so that they're good), a great match up, skilled fighters.. A fight that had its importance in the division.

At FW conor aldo only lasted a few seconds and had no back and forth action, but it will be remembered for a long time

Yeah, agreed. Close this thread and give us a better one
